Mt Moosalamoo VT. Our LAST TRIP!

Next week, we're taking our last camping trip in the Scamp!
:-(

We're going to the dark-side and building a camper van now.
Our month-long trip down the eastern side of the USA in March and April was just too cold for us now and we want a few more perks than this old 1977 13' can provide.

Here's our last Moosalamoo visit photo album and we'll post another one after this trip.

Also, you can look up our reviews on the camping site called thedyrt (Yeah, they spell it that way.) for more details.

I usually go to the White Mountains because they're closer but try to get to the Greens once a season. Went to Moosslamo last year. It's a nice little campground. As I recall the host was in a Casita. Nice fellow. There's a forest road near the entrance that makes a nice dog walk. This year I went to Glendale near Weston. Eleven sites, all border a steam. No host. Not as developed as Moosalamoo. Hapgood, down near Peru, is quite nice. Small pond with a beach and showers. Unfortunately it's rather busy these days.

The best time in New England: After school's in session, before leaf-peeper traffic.
We just came back from a week out. We're heading out again in a week.

Yup. Low 60's during the day, 40's at night. Leaves are just starting to turn here in Central Vermont. In two weeks you won't find a camp site. After Columbus day just about everything closes.

This is something that's a great disappointment to me after moving out here from MN.

In MN a LOT of campsites stayed open 365 days a year.
- A pit toilet that can be used year-round.
- A freeze-protected water faucet at one location.
- A metal pole with a slot for payment.
That's it. We can camp at our leisure.

But out here, not-even-mid October and everything closes down except a very few locations.

:-(

Do you folks have recommendations for campgrounds that allow people to camp later in the year?

Hancock in the WMNF just east of Lincoln, NH is open year round. Wear your woolies.

Angry Our last trip in the Scamp only lasted 18 hours. :cry

Oh poo. Our last trip was a bust.

On the evening of our first night we noticed a large lump on our dog's neck and by the middle of the night he was swelling in other places around his face so we packed up and hightailed it back to Boston.

We only got about 18 hours of camping in before we had to be back in our cold/wet/raining neighborhood.

We can't find a time to go our in the next month, so it'll be cleanup-time and then saying goodbye to the Scamp. What a sad final trip.

The dog has been to the vet and has some places for him to drain out goop and a bunch of meds for the next 4-6 week. Of course, we'll never really know what it was. Stick puncture from running in the woods? Ate a stinging bug? Leftover wandering Porcupine quill from last year? Who knows.

Update on the campground host Plylar: He and his wife bought property in Alabama I hear and they are not going to host Moosalamoo anymore. Last year was their last.

They actually only had a host for 30 days this year, so it must be tough to get staff.

The sites were still well-maintained, so someone must stop in once a week or so I think.
