Group Picture
Final Group picture before people take off finding there own path. Four rigs are heading off to Labrador for a last few days together while we head east to see David Shaw, the person who proposed the concept of a Loose Caravan.

Tonight we were going for a hike when a person from Frv traveling in a Casita stopped by from Ohio whose been following our trip.
After they left we took a smaller hike going down to inspect the bergs. There we met a couple in a Trillium.

2017 Newfoundland Trip
Though we've been asked about another Caravan by a number of people, We have decided it's not in the cards for us.
We have thought about the trip and how we could improve it and plan to write up a plan for a four week trip up the west coast of Newfoundland as well we will rewrite the little Guide to Newfoundland.
These materials could support others who would like to come but feel they need guidance.

Viking RV Park
This park is located in Quirpon, NL, near the tip of the Northern Peninsula, just a few miles from L'Anse Meadows. It has the best bathrooms I've seen, heated with tiled showers. Grace is the owner an a very nice woman in a Newfoundland way. You'll want to have a coffee or tea in her little cafe and get a piece of some of the best pie.
She even has lower priced sites with 15 amps near the office. It is near the Meadows, Icebergs , plenty of Moose and two fine restaurants, the Norseman (expensive for dinner) and the Daily Catch (good and not expensive).
You'll love this one. We all did.

Jim, Most of the Caravan has headed over to Labrador, reinforcing the loose concept. The trip to Labrador was supposed to happen mid-Caravan but Red Bay opened up later this year so we changed the plans. We're leaving the Viking in the morning and heading out towards Dave's in Gander to share a hug and to give thanks for his idea.
The other members seemed to have a really good time, most extending their original stay, and many planning to come back.
Ginny and I are thinking of heading back to Fogo Island since it's not far from Dave's and another good place to see Icebergs. We plan to focus on Provincial parks for this part of the trip since we bought a park pass and they're usually very nice.
I'll pass on your good wishes.

Loose Caravan
One aspect of the Caravan that really worked was the loose nature combined with the friendliness of the Newfoundlanders. One member would speak with a Newfoundlander and find out where the best Mooseburgers and others would go there.
This morning so hike was a find by a couple who drove to the end of a road in a town of 20 houses finding a trail to the top of a headland. From there one spied a grounded, flexing iceberg. Everyone got into end of roads and exploration, finding what's not in brochures or on maps. This is traveling at a slower pace.
The trail and flexing berg.

We're also taken by the amount of wood people have cut and stacked beside the roads and their home built sleds for winter hauling.
We're reaching the end, people are heading off for side trips to Labrador and the east coast of NL. Ginny and I will be heading to Mid-island.

Mike, The berg in the previous post was probably 50 x 75 yards. It's a near shore, grounded berg. The right lobe is flexing about three feet. There are perks miles off shore that are longer than a battleship. The first picture shows a larger one just visible in the offshore fog at least 5 miles away that has a similar screen width to the one in the foreground. The second picture shows one much larger but note the one on the horizon. Lastly the turtle berg. They're everywhere, each unique.

Hi: honda03842... That "Flexing berg" looks to me like a nice crisp, white linen made bed, with a head board and pillows!!! Very restful.

Alf, Newfoundland is restful. Though only thing not restful is paying attention for Moose while driving. We've all seen a number of them.

The one you posted is very tall. Sometimes as they come in they roll and the part under water appears above the surface. Of course the under water part is the bigger portion. Generally the ones far out to see look like flattops.

Never forget my dad shooting pictures of icebergs as we sailed from Canada to England on the Empress of Britain.
Kept getting closer and closer and he ended up shooting four 36-exposure rolls of film.
Problem is he insisted on loading every one of them into the slide projector so we could all enjoy them.

Glenn, That must have been a marvelous trip to England for you and your Dad. Somenthing not many will likely experience, I'm sure nothing like today's cruise 'hotel's'.
While in St. Anthony we met the crew of the Viking ship Draken, a 120 foot replica of the Viking Ship of old. THey talked about their crossing among the ice bergs, of being deep in the trough of a wave, of sleeping in their survival suits (all sleeping was done on the deck under a tent in 4 hour shifts), getting up close and personal to massive icebergs, what an adventure?.
The crew was from all over, mostly younger people with joy of the sea in their hearts. Icebergs will forever float in their dreams. I think once you've seen them, whether pictures or slides you never forget them. The second time we came to NL, the first time in the spring, I can still see the first ice berg, driving like crazy to get nearer. One of the members of the caravan equated to her first visit to Disney as a child. Everyday people would return for the evening and relate berg stories.
It's great that you have the memory of the trip. It's amazing how memories remain. Today we're going to an area that we've been to before, just the mention causes the location to flood back. I can see the trail we'll climb to get to the top of the falls.

Go to nowhere and find something. We're in Kings Point, NL, nowhere by most standards, but there's always something to find at nowhere. We're parked in a small municipal Campground overlooking the bay as seen in our first picture. We've driven to three end of roads from here to find there's a hiking trail at the end of the roadS, taking us to an 800 foot waterfall T Rattling Brook, the Caribou Trailand a rough sea side trail with tiny hiking sign in Harry's Harbour, all leading to a couple of huge icebergs. I forgot the whale.

A few more.. We've only been here for about 4 hours. We know at least 3 trails we have not hiked. This is not a place on people's list, yet like so many places there more to do then we will do. When you travel always consider the nowhere places
