I have no idea why the pictures are doubling up.

There was record ice, to the horizon. The ferry ride to Fogo Island was through continuous ice. Just amazing.

Thanks for posting those pictures, Norm, those views are awesome. A spring trip to NL to see the icebergs is still on my list.

I always liked the New England area, I believe my ancestors on my Mom's side came to America in the 1700's and lived around the Boston area and some eventually came down to Long Island to live, which is where I grew up. I want to visit Maine and travel up to Canada. Then visit the rest of New England. My parents took me on a road trip upstate NY when I was growing up and enjoyed it. That's why I have such an interest in this part of the country. And I always wanted to go up to Canada and Prince Edward island, you know, Anne of Green Gables visit. I heard that movie has increased tourism there.

It was cooler this year and very windy. Typical it is in the 40s to 60s. We no longer carry winter clothes but layer up. This year we stayed at Norris Point, a town I Gros Morne, a marvelous little town that has a wonderful May music festival. This year it snowed on us, 14 inches on May 20th. The locals said it was a first. Typically we wear jeans and appropriate sweaters and jackets. We did get to wear shorts for 7 days.

Here are some of our outfits. I bought the shirt in NL for $9. It's amazing Ginny's become a good hiker.

Paul. This was the best year ever for icebergs, all the old locals said so.

Nobody would believe these pictures are from the same trip. Ginny in shorts one day and then out in the snow on another day.

Jansig, PEI is fun, actually all the Maritime Provinces are. The provincial Green Gables with the actual Love Lane is a great visit.

Janisg, we arrived in early May and left in early July, a fair spread of weather. We carry layers in our tow vehicle including a sweater, raincoat, hat, gloves, and a jacket.

Soapstone cliff where native Americans carved bowls out of the face in Fleur-de-lis, NL.

Second and third pictures are at Brimstonehead on Fogo Island, Newfoundland, one of the four corners of the Earth.

Ginny climbing up Brimstonehead, a shorts day. Note the ice in the harbour. Fisherman lost about a month of fishing due to the ice. Click image for larger version

Glacial erratics, rocks transported by glaciers from another place, are all over Newfoundland. Picture taken on the climb of Fogo Head. The roundness comes from grinding and rolling of the stone under the glacier. Click image for larger version

The iceberg was grounded, stuck on the bottom of the bay. It rolled over revealing what the bottom looked like.

Icebergs do roll when they become unbalanced. We've seen 3 or 4 roll, none were grounded. Rolling icebergs can be very dangerous. Last year while we were here two people were killed while chipping ice off a berg. The water in a berg is fresh water and generally about 10,000 years old.

NL has beer made with iceberg water, for the tourist.

...and surely sell it for a tourist-y price, but I maintain they deserve every penny!

Love these pictures. Can't get over seeing all that ice. What a contradiction in the picture of Ginny wearing shorts and all that ice in the background. What an interesting place to visit. And shop. I would love to buy a sweater and a quilt from there.

Quilts and knitted items are definitely available. We've only bought socks and gloves though I did want a sweater that was for sale at the Tales, Trails and Tunes music festival. However I have a sweater like Ginny's in her snow picture and that means no room in the trailer, those Nordic sweaters are heavy and thick.

Cathy, We did have a unique year according to the local people. We've gone 3 of the last 4 years and each has had increasing ice. Almost enough reason to go back next year.

Well, I hope you will do it again next year then. That is obviously a long trip but very rewarding to see the First Nations handiwork and the spectacular scenery. We liked that stone photo.
