We received our Honda Generator today. Ginny loves it because she can start it.
It has the ability to run our AC though I'm sure we won't be running it in NL.
I can say that the oil level shut off works. I thought I had filled it to the right level but apparently not because the oil alert light came on and the engine shut off.

Honda Generator Features
1. Ginny can start it and carry it.
2. The fill cap has a lever to close the top, keeping gas fumes from escaping.
3. I found the best government compliant gas can. You tip the can into the tank and push a button and gas flows into the tank. The best solution I've seen and easy to use.
4. The only negative is the oil fill, a real pain. I bought a turkey baster to fill it.
5. I ran the generator. When done powering the trailer I shut it off and put the generator in a closed up trailer. Came back in an hour and no discernible oils or gas odors. We will not carry the generator in the trailer but it was a test.
6. It has an hour usage indicator in groups of 100 hours.
7. It does run our 5000 BTU Air Conditioner.
8. The oil low alert really works. If the oils low, it lights a light and stops the engine.

The reason we bought a Honda is because it's a Honda. Honda's have a network for service and a reputation for engine reliability, though admittedly I never expect to require service. As well it comes with an excellent operator's manual and real service manuals are available.
We also did not want a 2000 watt, 48-64 lb generator, age was the factor with respect to weight.

The 1000 watt Honda is a great choice for exactly the reasons you stated.
The low weight is perfect if the generator puts out the power you need and it seems that this is a good match for your application.
I would wish that the Harbor Freight unit was lighter for the same reasons as you.
My needs are really for emergency backup for the house and occasional use with the camper.
I guess that either way it is occasional use. (One hopes)
For reliable availability yo need to use the "pure" gas with a stability additive adn als exercise the unit regularly.
Good luck with your Honda.

Emergency House
Ginny told me that our emergency house is our Scamp 16. It contains everything we need to live.
If we're in our park in FL, we're OK. The park is self sustaining in terms of water and sewer, both utilities backed up with their own generators.
As to electricity. probably half the units are 5th wheels or Class As with generators. A number of people with Park Models also have generators so electricity should not be an issue.
As to food we're a little Mormon like, and centered in an agricultural county.
We have considered buying a second generator to power our FL Park Model. in that case we would go for something larger and more stationary probably supported by propane.
Hurricanes can bring significant damage. Oue FL park was damaged by Hurricane Charlie in 2004/5.

Verizon Phone Plan for Canada
I just called Verizon to get Ginny's Verizon phone extended for Canada. Of course the plan has changed since our last visit to Canada. I purchased for a $25/month rider that provides 500 minutes, 500 texts, and 1 gigabyte of data per month.
I have my T-mobile for Canada, 6 gigs of data plus another 11 gigs of unused data from previous months and unlimited talk and text. So far the T-mobile service has been as good as Verizon coming up the east coast.

The luck of the Irish...
For those not going sometimes good things happen by chance....
I carry the luck of the irish with me, she sleeps in my bed.
Not by design or with intention the St. Anthony's Iceberg festival occurs while we're in the area. The schedule follows. Go to the home page to see some wonderful pictures

Saved by Gorilla Glue
The night before we left my son's home in York, Maine I managed to break the wooden table that supports our bed. We ended up sleeping in the house. I glued the table back together that evening and it was fine in the morning.
Today just before the causeway to Cape Breton we stop for gas and a coffee. While I was pumping gas Ginny noticed the trailer door was open. The oak wooden piece that holes the ?striker plate? had failed. More gorilla glue. Set by the time we got to the ferry.
From there's always something category, the electric heating element of the water heater stopped working before we stopped for the night at our friend's home in NB. I tracked it down to the switch and we're back on the air.
This is the coolest spring in my memory. There were virtually no leaves on the trees in coastal Maine and none in NB.

I bought a package of gorilla glue a while back, but when reading the package I recall seeing that it required a long set time plus pressure (i.e., clamp or something). Is there more than one variety of gorilla glue? Or are you taking liberties with the application method? Just wondering, because I never used the stuff due to the involvement... that tube is around here somewhere, hmmm.....

I follow the instructions and dampen one surface. I did clamp my folding table by folding it on it self separating the folded pieces at the glue line with a paper towel.
I applied pressure with using a couple of table knife especially as wedges.
With the door pieces, I put a screw in to apply pressure to each piece.
Each cured for six or so hours.

I wish I were coming along as was originally planned, I would love to compare notes with the master of improvisations. All the best along the way, Norm!

Paul, When it's the trailer door or the bed you have to find a way. The water heater not so much. Ginny's willing, happily willing to heat water on the stove but not willing to sleep apart.

T-Mobile works.
So far our new phone has done everything, working smoothly. Better reception than Ginny's Verizon.
The T-Mobile has shown a movie while serving as a Wi-Fi hot spot for our other devices, Ginny's phone, her pad/kindle, and our computers. It also has the ability to mirror it's screen to a TV.
To this point up the east coast and thru two provinces it's work as well as any phone/network I've owned.
The phone is a Samsung Note 5. Extremely powerful and capable of producing virtual reality with appropriate equipment. With Virtual Reality you feel your actually in the middle of the scene.
It should be of interest for those with a lot of cross border travel.

Bad News.
Every year we come to NL we get a rider to our phone that allows calls to the states. Verizon still sells the package for Canada but provides no coverage in NL.
