North Pole Resort, Wilmington NY
We got here & pretty much set up before a terrible storm Thursday mid to late afternoon & into the evening. It was awesome.
For the 1st time, we set up a Gander Mountain canopy as so many other folks with ParkLiners do. For the 1st time, we set up a Clam 1660 screen tent. For the umpteenth time, we set up our big Cabela's camp kitchen, & found we can't use the whole thing against the trailer. Whatever. 1st time ever hooking up to water & sewer, as well as cable. Cable came in handy Thursday keeping track of the storm.
Friday a cousin of mine I'd never met & her husband came for a visit. She was the reason we camped up here fairly close to Malone NY where she was attending a high school reunion. They're from out near Seattle. That was particularly cool.
After they left, I went back to my cabinet door supports project. That should be done by noon tomorrow. Worked on it a bunch today too. Cutting 1 X 3 oak with a hand saw, using a plain sanding block, etc.
We went into Lake Placid this morning for some groceries & hardware. Crazy place to be on a July 4th weekend. Lots of people, dogs, bikes, motorcycles, cars, trucks, SUV's, motor homes, BBQ festival downtown, shops buzzing.
Coming back, we went to the A&W drive-in just past our campground entrance (we're in the 100 Miles Woods, just down & across the road towards Placid from the main campground). I had a chile dog, fries & a strawberry shake. Gee...
Been working around camp since then.
This is an interesting place. Where we are, trailers & motor homes are right on top of one another. To drive the truck out, I have to move out some, back up, & go. Different. Then again, we have all 4 popular hook-ups. We're close to three nice individual bathrooms (toilet, sink, shower, plenty of hooks), but they're somewhat overwhelmed. Still, very nice, kept clean & all. About 50 bucks/night.
We have yet to look around and see the whole place, like the main part on the Ausable River. From what we've seen so far, I probably wouldn't come back if I had to camp where they put us.
More later, including pics.

Well, having looked around, this is an interesting place. In the original area, on the side of the road near the river, there are big open sites. A bit too much open for my taste, but not bad. A couple pools, game rooms, etc.
What we found was that most everybody was gone during the day visiting any of the local attractions, hiking/climbing paths/trails, fishing the many trout streams, or just hanging out in Lake Placid, a neat community. So from that perspective, for a place with full hook ups, and staff around in their golf carts continously, never any garbage around, rest rooms (while not many) always clean, I guess I might stay here again if we were doing other stuff during the day, which, again, seems like what most folk were doing.

Frank,
Been to that A&W back in 2008 when we went to Lake Placid KOA in October. Went up to the mountain and there was ice already. Nice historical tour up there also.

We ate lunch one day at the A&W Jim. I had a chili dog, fries and a strawberry shake. Place is in great shape too!

I didn't know if I could get this video off my iPhone into the computer, but obviously I figured it out! Driving up to the top of Whiteface was done on a whim, and I did not bring my camera. Also, it was 85 when we started up, and 63 and windy when we got to the top!

It was hazy, but I got some good landscape shots from just below the top. We could not get to the top because we had our puppy.
