Paddling in the Adirondacks
Maggie and I are just back from a couple days canoeing in the St. Regis Canoe area in the western Adirondacks. We stayed at N.Y. state run Fish Creek camp ground (about $30/night no hook ups). The canoe area offers some of the best quiet water canoeing in the northeast with numerous undeveloped ponds that are interconnected with shallow waterways or short portages. For about $5 you can get a very detailed map produced by the Adirondack mountain club. This time of year it is common to be alone on the ponds, except for the resident loon and a few ducks. On Horseshoe pond we spotted an eagle, a rare sight in this part of the country. If you like a leisurely paddle, this is a great place. Raz
