Palmetto Island Camp Ground

One of my favorite campgrounds is Palmetto Island State Park near Abbeville, LA. They are experiencing a big storm surge from hurricane Laura, so I am sure it will be closed for quite a while.

There are 3 campgrounds in south LA where I was hoping to spend some time this winter. Also a couple just over the state line in Texas. Unless it is a high priority, I can see some of these campgrounds being closed for at least 6 months if not a year.

The Louisiana coastline is a series of bays and inlets. Water is being pushed into the bays and inlets and then up the rivers and bayous. At the same time, they are still getting rain that has nowhere to drain. This may cause more damage than the wind.

Abbevile has an elevation of 16', Lafayette which is the largest city in SW LA is 36', Lake Charles which is near the Texas line and hit extremely hard by Laura is 15', Orange, TX is 7'.

Spoke with relative today in Abbeville, LA.

Didn't experience any hurricane damage to their home but did suffer damage from a spawned tornado.

No clue how the State Park fared. If no worse than they suffered, it will probably be back open without too much delay.

I've been thinking about moving to Abbeville. Inexpensive housing and close to the gulf for fishing.

Cajun Riviera in Shambles

Holly Beach (the Cajun Riviera) and Cameron were both hit hard. There is some helicopter video on youtube.
