I understand that they're going to put National Parks on the Moon and abridge all the way to the Moon so you take your camper there.

The camping is free, but the toll on the bridge is high and its over a 4000 hour drive. No problem giving the campground 6 months notice for reservations. and the view is awsome!

Moon heck....I want to camp on the sun. I plan to go at night when it's cooler. Speaking of the moon.....they have a great restaurant there....great food but no atmosphere. Happy trails!

Concessionaires aren't actually a new thing at our National Parks. It began way back, most famously, with an entrepreneur named Fred Harvey back in the 1880's. Yea! Bring back the "Harvey Girls!"

Anyone heard a rumor concerning the Nat Parks system proposing to not honor the Senior pass during peak visiting days? I think that is a breach of promise.

I read an article that stated “ THEY” were considering restricting the Senior Pass at certain parks , during high usage periods and on weekends & holidays
Our senior pass would basically be good on weekdays ,off season ,and at parks that are under utilized .
There was also talk of eliminating the senior pass IE ; If you had one it would still be honored but new passes would not be issued
These changes have been proposed in the past but then seemed to be dropped

I maybe do not have an issue with restricting dates to visit national parks. I was almost knocked off the boardwalk of Yellowstone into the hot stuff by aggressive picture takers the last time I was there. I would prefer to go when not so busy, something possible when I am retired in May.

I would prefer the option to visit during low times, not be restricted to it. My parents are preparing to retire early next year. They love to spend time appreciating nature, so as one small gift we are paying for their lifetime pass. I'd hate to see its utility be reduced.

However, I don't see in the article that visits are being restricted--just discounts. This quote from "Derrick Crandall, vice chairman of the committee and a counselor with the nonprofit National Park Hospitality Association," if true, is troubling: "All we're saying is that it may not make sense on peak days like July 4 weekend to let seniors compete with a family with kids for a campsite." That reeks of ageism.

I'm retired and don't have an issue with restricting using the discount during peak times. Something I learned from my Dad, he was a fisherman. Once he retired he said he left the fishing of the rivers and lakes during weekends and long weekends to the 'poor' working folk. The fish were still available on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. The same can be said about views.

I don't like crowds and actually prefer off-peak visits. YMMV

I have to agree with Donna. While I don't like restrictions in general, with the crowding at the major parks, we retired have the option of visiting during the week or other off peak times, putting less stress on the system.
