Red Rock Canyon Calif State Park ?

Has anyone camped at Red Rock Canyon. The Cal State web site is interesting. We are headed south and will boondock in Cal desert. Joshua tree, maybe Death Valley. Also some of the BLM camping areas. Spring must be coming to Oregon I heard Frogs today. But it is not soon enough LOL

I live about 80 miles from Red Rock Canyon.
I have never camped there but I have driven through the pay camp area.
It's a nice campground in a beautuful part of the desert.
It's all BLM so there are always roads of the Highway where you can Boondock.
A week ago last Sunday it was 70 degrees around here two days later it snowed.
By this weekend it is supposed to around 80 degrees.
The next 6 weelks or so will be the ideal time to camp in the desert.
After that the temps will be 90 to 100+.

Joshua Tree NP in the spring can be like a zoo gone wild.

The two NP camprounds that accept reservations, (Black Rock & Indian Cove) while inside the park itself, are isolated and are really not connected to the rest of the park. All of the campgrounds inside the park proper are first come-first served and have no hook-ups and NO WATER whatsoever. The only water is at the entrance stations, check when you enter. Here is a link:
http://www.nps.gov/jotr/planyourvisit/camping.htm

We were there about two weeks ago and stayed at Jumbo Rocks c/g and it was less than 20% occupied, but that will change as soon as the first of the spring flowers appear. Some of the in-park camp sites ARE NOT suited for trailers of any length.

We have reservations at Black Rock starting on a Sunday. so It should be a bit quieter. We are going to base camp and explore from there. If nothing else just sit and soak up some sun. We have a rain on tap for all day again today.

While in the Red Rock area you might want to check out Trona Pinnacles, California BLM Area - DesertUSA

and maybe Ballarat, California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and maybe Randsburg, California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

none of this too far out of your way if your in the area and traveling through to Joshua Tree
