Started across from Bloomington IN to San Francisco for 10 days ( dropped trailer 80 miles east near Travis AFB. From there down the Joaquin valley to Red Rock canyon CA, thru Mojave wilderness and over to Nevada, to Zion and Arches, Dead Horse Pte, and south thru Navaho Res to Canyon de Chelly , then various state parks in Az to Karsthner Caverns where I parked trailer as I researched a book I'm writing in Tucson, Bisbee and Douglas. Then angled northeast from Mexico border thru New Mexico Kansas, Missouri , Illinois and home. I am now the master of my 16' Scamp !

WOW! What a trip! Quite the zig-zag through the South West. Any favorite campsites you'd like to report on?

1) I loved Roper State Park in north eastern Arizona with its natural hot tub near Safford, AZ. While the spots were a bit exposed and a little too close, the lake and bird sanctuary area was so peaceful. Full services.
2) Likewise Lyman Lake State Park in Arizona - lovely sites but not much in the way of trees. Overlooking the reservoir, very high elevation (7K feet) and incredible views especially that night in four hour thunderstorm fleeting across the desert. Full service.
3) Kartchner Caverns State Park, AZ - campground with spacious sites and trees! In the high desert under the mountain that has the most recently discovered and open to the public caverns in US. Situated 1 1/2 hours from Tucson and 1 1/2 hours from Bisbee, it's ideal spot for quiet and yet within reach of two interesting places.
4) Valley of the Fires State Park, NM - a lonely and beautiful state park with all spots overlooks of the lava beds. Completely quiet and very empty. Full service.
5) Santa Fe Railroad Lake campground run by city of Augusta, Kansas, my favorite of the parks for the natural, still beauty of the place. Only electric and no water or sewage.
All of these campgrounds were visited in late October so solitude and quiet could be due to that as it was getting to be cold weather. See photos. I will have a small travel book coming out on Amazon the end of 2013 entitled The Little Road Book.

Way to go! My mother in law turned 85 this year and takes her 35' diesel pusher and a svu and heads south every year! Yes she is a 85 year old granny with an airbrake ticket! She actually was a volunteer for the last 13 years at Kartchner Caverns and she and her late husband actually help build some of the park and trails. I have been there 3 times and saw quite a few eggs staying there. Its a great little park and close to quite a few interesting places.

This is the first year she did not go to Arizona and is now in Florida as a volunteer at a state park there along with some friends from Kartchner!

You are only as old as you feel. Get out there and go for it!

The process from novice to master seems a lot shorter looking back than looking forward. Glad to hear that it went so quickly.

You and Deb are my models, Floyd. It finally changed from a love/hate with my scamp to love/love my 4th night out after picking up trailer from 10 day hiatus without it. Not sure what happened but he changed from a dangerous beast I was dragging behind me to my little orphan child trying hard to
Please me and I started decorating him with those trailer lites.
