Snowing in Yellowstone

Have a good friend that is on a camping trip out west. He called me today from Wyoming. He was driving through Yellowstone as we talked and it was snowing and the roads were white. Man Oh Man

We ran into about 2 inches of snow in the NE corner of the park during our 2006 trip to Yellowstone. It was right around July 30.

We are heading back out there later in July again this year. We travel prepared for anything!

I have been snowed on in Wyoming on the 4th of July not to mention two weeks in a leaky tent. That's how we got our first Montana Rainfly.

Cool Altitude

For you flatlanders, you know who you are, mountain weather is vastly different from what you are used to. In Mt. Rainier National Park they will tell you it can snow anytime of the year.

When we tent camped, it was unbelievably cold at Bryce Canyon NP. Asking at the lodge during breakfast the next morning we found out it had gotten down to 25 degrees F during the middle of July! BTW Bryce is about 7000ft.

You always need a warm jacket at high altitudes.

Taken June 18th, in Yellowstone. We were all excited when we woke up to about an inch of snow. Figuring it would soon stop and melt, we left the Fishing Bridge campground for Old Faithful. We ran into a blizzard by the time we crossed the continental divide; we could barely see the road ahead and had to slowly creep forward. There was over four inches of snow by the time it stopped.

It's been a cool summer in southern NH. My niece is visiting and took the kids to the beach yesterday afternoon and had to wrap in a blanket it was so cool. This has been a relatively cool July here.
