There are some jurisdictions where it is actually illegal to wear a mask while carrying, laws that were in place prior to COVID-19 of course. Don't know if Annie's is in one of them or not.

Furthermore, when we volunteered on Pine Ridge, similar unfortunately in several native nations, we were told not to drive on the Rez if possible. Alcoholism is bad there, and you risk drunk drivers on the roads.

About 5 years ago our overlanding group was primitive camping on Sheep Mountain, which is in part of Badlands National Park but also within the Pine Ridge reservation boundary (not sure who has jurisdiction there). It was a glorious place to camp, on the edge of a cliff overlooking the Badlands.
At one point that evening a pickup full (front and rear) of natives cruised by. They seemed quite cheerful and did nothing more than smile and wave their beer cans at us. I guess there wasn't much else to do there.

My understanding is they are checkpoints, not roadblocks. A few minutes’ delay, perhaps, depending on traffic. They’ll likely ask about symptoms and where you’re going, maybe ask to see your ID. If you’re not sure whether you’re comfortable with the questions they might ask, or if you want the current status of the checkpoints, contact the tribe directly.
It’s not that much different from a DUI checkpoint.

No the spokesperson was clearly making an extremely dangerous uninformed political statement. Regardless of affiliation safety first folks.

Good advice. We called Standing Rock Reservation and were told they are not stopping travelers.
