Florida has some beautiful state parks - and those in the Panhandle are largely undiscovered by the rest of the country. I can't understand why so many people seem to prefer commercial RV "parks" when they can enjoy the (somewhat) more natural environment and beauty of the state parks.

this is a wonderful park....we were supposed to have stayed there but after my husband filled me in about the snakes who lived beneath the washrooms (elevated) at
st. george island state park...i chickened out and cancelled our reservations at st. andrews! (they admitted to occasionally seeing snakes there when i called in a panic). feeling guilty..and stupid...i agreed to a drive-thru while we were staying, instead, at the panama city koa. i was soooo sad that i had cancelled. it is an absolutely gorgeous park and we WILL return.
...but i will be on the look-out for snakes when we do...!!

Yes, Floyd I remember you. It was nice to meet you! Thanks for stopping by to say Hi!
During my 6 days there I saw Floyd in his Scamp, two different Casitas and an Escape in the park.
Theresa - I did not see any snakes in the park but I did see a rat!

My stay at this park was not planned. In December I had reserved a 7 night stay at Fort Pickens in Loop A for Feb. 13-20. I was excited to stay there based on all the reviews I had read.
I drove up to the registration building on Feb 13 so excited to be told at the desk that my reservation had been cancelled the day before as the power was not working at that site. Of course they had no availability to replace my reservation. That had a 2 night stay in Loop E that I took to consider what I wanted to do.
The site was nothing...just a pad in grass surrounding with the electric far away.....and the weather was coldddddd, too cold to even explore the beaches. As a result of all of these factors I just decided to move on. I spent one night at Grayton and I liked it but when I pulled into my site at St Andrews to stay 4 nights I immediately went online and extended my stay another 2 nights.
I have reservations at Fort Desoto, John Pennekamp and Curry Hammock so we will see how they compare.
