wintering in augusta, ga

I am planning to take my casita to Augusta, GA this winter to stay December - February. Does anyone have a favorite camp site for this area?

Why there, not warm enough. We wintered on Jekyll Island GA a couple winters, not warm enough there either.

wintering in Agusta

Yeah, I would head farther south too. I spent the last two winters Near to St George Island Florida. Many great campgrounds near there and a State Park on the Island. Lots of the campgrounds from East Point Florida to Carrabelle Florida are really nice, but highly priced. I stayed in one and felt so out of place. I was the youngest person with the oldest camper. I was dwarfed by the huge R V's. I did find great cheap and free boondocking sites in the Appalachicolla National Forest. Also many siters in Tates Hell.

In the Florida parks we may not have been the youngest, but usually were maybe by just a few years. At late 60's we did fit in OK with the rest of the geezers there. Our Casita usually was the smallest trailer in the campground, but a few times a Scamp 13 would show up. Never had anyone treat us different because of the size of our camper.

Wintering in Augusta

Hey Mike,
I spent the last two winters in and around the Florida Panhandle and loved it. I too would suggest going a little further south but the Petersburg COE campground is a gem, about 20 miles from Augusta. Happy camping! Peace

COE has some really nice camp sites on Clarks Hill Lake just outside of Augusta. Now Thurman Lake. The Savannah River runs thru Augusta and should have a few campgrounds close by. i have never be to a COE campground that wasn't top notch and a good stay for us.

I have family in the Augusta area I want to spend time with is the reason for that general location. Do the camp grounds on Thurmond Lake allow camping by the month?

Hey Mike,
Most C.O.E. campgrounds have a limit to total number of days you can stay, and also a 2 week limit and then you have to leave for 2 days. There are enough campgrounds in the area so that shouldn't be a major problem. Private campgrounds would probably allow longer stays. Hope that helps. Peace
