We just left McDowell Mountain Regional Park just northeast of Phoenix, which we liked a lot. Big spread out sites in a large park with 360 view of surrounding mountains. We have a
Scamp 19 and no one was unfriendly. Most others had big RV or 5th-wheels and a few Class-Bs.
The main attraction is their numerous hiking and mountain-biking trails. We're into birds and saw quite a few, though nothing unusual.
Restrooms are plentiful and pretty good. Sites with electric and water are $25 per night plus an $8 booking fee. Downside is that it's hard to get in. We had booked three nights several months ago and had difficulty extending. There is an overflow campground for $17 per night with no hook ups, but a very nice bathroom/shower.
There are other Maricopa County Regional Parks probably closer to other parts of Phoenix, some with campgrounds, but we haven't seen them. Google search should find them.
