Yellowstone bound
Heading toward Yellowstone with a direction but no schedule. This is what they promised Retirement would be!
I look forward to finding out if the reality matches the hype.
First night: Donner Lake, CA.

Excellent! Don't miss the Grand Tetons (the park) and Jackson Hole (the town).
Oh, and get your reservations now, that is a difficult place to book.

Make sure you stop and camp on your way at the Gros Ventre campground at Grand Teton - its just a couple of mile out of Jackson Hole - amazing place to camp (and to check out Jackson Hole) if you go to the end where there is no power or water supply - wildlife wanders around the back of the trailer all the time. Got up one morning to find a big moose sleeping beside the trailer.

I am ready for snow with a down comforter and jacket, boots and rain gear.
But it is going to take me at least a week to get there.
Bryce Canyon is on the way to Yellowstone!

You may want to check your route to see what passes will require you to have "winter tires" - All Season Radials are not Winter tires - otherwise you will need to carry chains.

I liked Red Canyon very well, and it's just west of Bryce. Nice NF CG there on the highway, and some nice little hikes... especially the Arches Trail.
At Bryce, I suggest taking the horse tour down into the canyon.

Don't worry about winter tires. They aren't requiring them right now. Just visited Yellowstone last month. It was beautiful. Make sure you visit West Yellowstone (town) just outside the west entrance. Fun little town and worth the drive. The KOA there is great!

This thread has me soooo excited in planning my trip this September. Im
Leaving PA Sept 6th to head to MT to get my second FiberStream. Def want to see the Grand Tetons then Yelliwstone- from
Here, I cant decide to go further West to Zion and Bryce Canyon and loop around to Verde, Co. I know driving in mid-april last year from Oregon was a nail-biter on some mountain passes pulling the trailer. I hope I get to see all that I want...I know to take my time, dont push it. Its def better to be safe than sorry.

Wow!! Where is there snow now and what elevation are you at? One thing for sure before I hit the road in MT once I get the new FiberStream- the bearings and brakes will be checked. Some of those mountain passes out West are nail biters for sure!!!

LOL they may not be required in Yellowstone right now but he needs to get there - through a few states and he has a few passes to go through to do it.
Edit: should also mention that although the date for snow tires being needed may have passed - even in Yellowstone when the big yellow signs on the side of the road start flashing saying you need winter tires or chains beyond this point & as mentioned all seasons dont cut it. It can happen in a late spring storm or an real early fall storm..... two years ago the north road to Glacier Park, Montana from Yellowstone didnt even open until July 1 or about then due to the snow issues.

Gorgeous! Which engine do you have and what kind of mileage are you seeing?
