theft prevention
Just wondering. Even though I have yet to get an Egg, I'm already thinking of ways to prevent theft of it. It will be something on the order of a 13' Scamp...is there any device I could put under it or in a odd place that would alert me IMMEDIATELY if someone was trying to drive away with it. Also, tracking devices. Maybe it could be tracked going down road. In this age of high tech stuff I'm sure there's got to be some great ideas out there. Bill

There's all kinds of stuff, like Lojack. It depends on how much money you want to throw at it. There's passive systems like this, that don't require power... of course it won't notify you and there's no monthly payment due to work: Rittenhouse | Heavy Duty Wheel Lock - Boot Wheel Lock

It's not very high tech, but maybe a couple dobermans? The screams would be very immediate.

I have this sign posted on my trailer door. So far I have had no theft issues.

Hi Bill. I went through a bit of a scare a couple months ago, when folks were showing up at my door asking about buying my trailer when it would be parked in the driveway. One guy showed up twice, telling me he was my neighbor. (yea right)
Anyway because I live in a mixed use area (commercial/residential) I started to become concerned about the same thing.
I bought a Trimax hitch lock and a wheel lock.
UNIVERSAL UNATTENDED COUPLER LOCKS - Trimax
and the wheel coupler
WHEEL LOCKS - Trimax
They may be overkill, but when I leave the trailer and take off. I feel secure enough to leave it.
I also have a tablet that has Lookout Mobile on it, that I leave in my trailer. It's a free app, although the paid version gives you more features.

Garmin makes a tracker called GTU10 that can be wired to the trailer battery that will allow you to track it anywhere in the US. About $150 plus $1 a week for service.

I just read where one member painted an ID number on the top of his trailer.
It can be spotted from the air in the event of theft. Unbeno'nced to the apprehender.

That assumes that the cops have nothing better to do than fly a chopper around at $1,500 an hour, looking for a $6,000 trailer.

The hitch lock looks good....but if someone really wanted it, couldn't they just chain it up and haul it off?
Wouldn't a wheel lock be a good addition if one is really concerned?:
Trimax Wheel Lock, Trimax Adjustable Wheel Lock, Trimax Wheel Locks
there was a thread a few month back where someone was getting weird notes inquiring about her trailer while she was gone, she decided, I believe, to pull off a wheel. Being a Uhaul, they had unique wheels and weren't easily replaced.

Well, precautions are always in order, but there are a lot of other things to worry about. Sharknados come to mind.

If you decide to pull a wheel/tire off... don't forget to remove the spare too! If you buy a wheel boot, make sure it covers the lug nuts too. Even one lug nut.

Some trucking companies do this with their trailers. I worked at one place where we did it with large decals, after the fuel company next door had a tanker stolen. They hired a private pilot to search for it.

Most of the above mentioned locking ideas will usually discourage 95% of the thieves. But if someone really wants your FGRV they will figure out a way to get it.
I think that the most dangerous place to park is in an open air RV storage lot. Thieves have all the time in the world to prepare for the theft as, in many cases, would be thieves first rent a small unit to give them free access to the entire lot so they can take their time casing and preparing for their haul.
My own Mustang Convert was stolen out of a locked garage in a large storage facility, albeit with the help of an employee that got to spend some time as a guest of the county as a result. They even went to the effort of replacing the lock on the roll-up door with one identical to the one they cut off.
But, not being that smart, they left the cut off lock laying on the floor in the empty garage, with the afore mentioned employee's finger prints all over it.....
As I was once told... locks only keep your friends out of your house.

Better get the one that covers the lugnuts, otherwise it's just a tire change.
I bought some coated, vey high carbon chain (can't touch it with a hacksaw or bolt cutters). I loop it around the axle (on torsion ones, springs on the regular axles) and through the wheels, then put a hitch lock on it. The bumper pull trailers get the chains wrapped around the to the and padlocked, so they can't be used to drag it off. I figure I've done what I could at that point.

All precautions only keep out the "honest" people.
Thieves can get around anything we do if they want it bad enough.
Thieves are also mostly lazy. So are given cause to reconsider the
more trouble we put them through.
I like the way construction crews hoist their generations, etc. high in
the sky with a crane. But it's still not safe. But it would rid me of any
temptation I might have.
