Yup. We've been sitting here, under the Capilano Cloud, for 35 years. If nothing else, we have a topic for conversation. "Where should we move to"?

The problem is Seattle gets it at 0.01 inch at a time. And the days that don’t get rain are often overcast and gray (except for summer and early fall). My first trip there was in January, interviewing for a job out of college. It wasn’t raining, but the sky was black. So I called my wife back in IL, “what’s the weather like?”. With a sky that dark we would be heading for the basement! Meanwhile it didn’t even rain the three days I was there. I got the job and we moved there when I graduated. What an adventure for someone 21 years old from Illinois!

We all have our prejudices . I have traveled to places that I really had no interest in seeing and after the trip my feelings were definitely confirmed. I have also traveled to places that intrigued me that were better then I imagined ( IE Oregon) . Everyplace may have its'
charms but some of those charms are wasted on me.
There are definitely places in the US and Canada that I could visit a thousand times and other places that once was too much.
We have never been to the New England States or the Eastern Provinces of Canada so we are planning a trip . We have high hopes for that trip. My prejudices tell me that it's my kind of place ,
especially Vermont , Upstate NY and Massachusetts

Seattle
We've spent a lot of time in Seattle. It can be beautiful but on the whole it is a dull gray place.
While in the west we spent a lot of time in Oregon, particularly coastal Oregon. We stumbled on to Port Orford and have been there 7 times on various trips. We were always amazed at how much we can find there.
Another place is Welcome Station east of Elko, NV. We stayed there for a couple of weeks, the owner sending us off to explore something every day and every night a camp fire, frequently with a dessert.
Being open to new, different and previously unknown provides a lot of windows.
This spring we're off to NL. One stop will be Tilt Cove, a four person, ocean side town, location of a 100 year copper mine, now closed, at the end of a winding dirt road. Just walking about and looking down at the stones makes it exciting.

Civilguy: Hillsboro, Oregon! I was born at the "old" Jones Hospital there back when pterodactyls darkened the skies. (Hospital is long gone, now.)
Definitely home of silicon forest, starting with Tektronics(sp?) from wayback.
High five to someone who knows or knew Hillsboro.

It's not that secret, is it? I know some people who work in tech, so it always seemed like "just another place" to me.
But, what the heck, high five back at you for being one of the most consistently positive voices here Kai. It's always a pleasure to read your posts.

Civilguy:
Not secret (I don't think!) but not much heard of in my circles. Only met one other person who mentioned it--her husband was from Hillsboro. So 2 mentions in the 23,652 days of my life...definitely worth a high-five!
Thanks, Mike, kind of you to say so.
BEST
