We camp with some Canadian friends that have a Bambi, nice trailer. Did you see the 85 Uhaul 16 posted the same day on Albany Craigslist? We looked at it back in June.

I wonder if FG and gelcoat could be hand laid over all that aluminum? Although not as nice as molded FG, it would eliminate seams that could leak, and shining would be much easier.

Wonder if Red Max Pro can be used on aluminum when it gets dull

Maybe some plaster over chicken wire and then cloth and resin? Wouldn't want a featherwgt. Airscream to lift off on those expansion seams. Which brings me around to the two Airstreams that Jim and Corky and I "inspected" at Burnt Cabins PA. The smaller which I believe was a 19 Bambi had puckers between the rivets in the belly seam at right rear. As these curved plates and the tooling for them is carefully lofted, this excess length in the edge of the overlapping panel is a little pointer to a lack of quality control way upstream of final assembly. The larger of the two had an applied belly band over that particular seam. I guess this tiny apercu is on topic? Or not.

Ok so I will risk being band from the list and admit that I kind of have a thing for 19 Bambi - love the layout and wish someone would do the same in a fiberglass trailer. I sure wouldnt say no if someone was to offer to give me one!

I agree with you Carol and I think if Airstream switched to a composite floor, then their numbers would skyrocket since Airstream plywood floors has always been their Achilles Heel.

Sorry about reviving an old thread, but that last post caught my attention. This is exactly what Airstream did beginning in 2021...they've switched to all composite flooring.
Came upon this thread as I'm presently in the market for a new trailer and am on the fence between a Bambi 19CB or an Escape 21C. I love the low maintenance of the Escape (as compared to the AS), but love the styling of the Airstream both inside and out.

I like the looks of the Airstream too, but the exterior is so fragile it can be dented by just pushing on it, and can really sustain a lot of damage in hail storms. Fiberglass is so much better as an exterior surface and structure.
