Bigfoot recommendation’s

So I’ve finally sold my 5thwheel and I’m looking at Bigfoot 2500 series travel trailer. I would consider a couple year old one but most likely will go new . Several months ago we had an opportunity to tour a new 24 queen bed model. We have yet to see a twin bed model which we are seriously considering. We are in Texas so not many around here and it doesn’t look like many in stock anywhere. I got an updated pricing list and it looks like they have added a few new options. Truma AquaGo tankless water heater is now an option as is a Truma heater / water heater . I believe it called a Truma Comfi , haven’t heard of this to even consider it .
We are interested in tankless water heater as we had one in the 5thwheel and loved it . Looks like Coleman Mach 10 is the A/C option. We would like a 12 volt refrigerator and a quiet A/C . I see skylite delete is an option which we would do . Anyone have a factory generator? Any pro’s or cons besides money cost ? We have also debated about recliners versus the dinette. Again have seen recliners in person to make a good decision.
We also want the front storage box , anyone have this what is your hitch weight in the real world?
Any advice or wants or deletes yo would have done is welcome.

Hi Cliff,
Sorry I don’t have any recommendations for you, as I am considering the same trailer. Would it be possible for you to upload the pricing list that shows the options? I had not heard that a tankless water heater was a option, so that is great news. Curious if you plan on adding solar, hence the skylight delete?
Thanks
Don

Main reason for skylight delete is the heat it lets in . We will add an additional fan in its location. Living in Texas less heat you can let in the better. Some people delete skylight in shower for the same reason. I need the extra headroom or I would consider it . I will try to load a build sheet . You can contact Paige at Trailer World of Colorado or any other dealer should have it . I think some of the standard equipment has changed but website may not show changes . I believe the shades are now MCD day/night shades versus the pleated shade’s. Bathroom door swing I think has changed due to so many people asking for the change .

Plus freight and dealer doc fees. But 10% off is certainly doable, but don’t expect a screaming deal. But Grant does go to great lengths for customization. I deleted the skylight, roof rack, A/C, and the absorption fridge with its top vent and side vent to free up real estate for a solar self install. Owned it a year now, zero problems!

I’m thinking of adding some solar and lithium batteries to the build . Not doing factory solar but dealer added solar package.

Yeah, I did my own solar because I wanted a drill free install, my choice of controller (Victron 100/50), I live 3 hours from the Portland dealer, and much cheaper.
Also the Bigfoot price…did I read that right? They use 200 watt panels, but $3000 for the 2 solar panels. My hard costs for the 4 panels and the controller was just under a thousand, then you add MC 4 connectors, fuses, crimps, VHB tape, Gorilla white duct tape, and yeah a couple hundred more, maybe $250. I forgot the Z brackets, so definitely $350. I doubled up on those for more VHB surface area.

We’ll be buying one in a couple years. My laundry list …
  • Drop shower skylight - I’m tall but its claustrophobic anyhow, I’ll just sit and shower and no skylight will keeps the heat out
  • Drop the main skylight - I’m not a fan of skylights, they don’t bring in that much light but they do bring in or lose lots of heat
  • No solar
  • Move battery to cabin (we’ll swap with lithium and save tongue weight)
  • Drop propane bottles (I have composite overwrapped pressure ones)
  • No fridge vents - roof or side. We’ll go with a compressor electric only fridge, I hope he can install
  • See if he can install induction cook top, at least run enough power outlets for dual microwave/induction usage
  • See if he can install the same double sink from the bed campers
  • Front storage box
  • No speakers or TV mounts
  • Maybe put a 240 volt outlet near the front for truck power (EV truck when shore power isn’t available)
  • External propane hookup
  • No fabric on valances, just tan (too busy)
  • Houghton AC w/ heatpump (or empty if he can’t install)

Skylight in shower is a must for me . I can put a insulated plug in when not using it to combat the heat . I believe they will install a Dometic 12 volt if you order and delete the vents for gas fridge. Houghton A/C is a dealer installation. We like the round sink . Sounds like you have a plan .

Why is a shower skylight a must? Just curious.

I’m a little over 6’3 and I don’t want to shower with my head bent sideways. Can’t even walk in without hitting my head . Looked at one with and one without, so not doing without it .

Whoa North of $80k for a trailer!?! That's insane. The thing doesn't even have an engine

Built better and last longer than just about anything you can buy .

Is it possible to have the bathroom fan put above the shower? I saw that on another trailer (not BF) Would that provide any additional headroom?

Probably could but I don’t think it would give much if any additional clearance. Skylight is domed and fans that I’ve seen aren’t. I’ll just use the insulated pads like I’ve used in our 5thwheel bathroom fan to block out heat and light when necessary.

We have a 2021 Bigfoot 25Rt, if I was to buy again with the current options I would do the following.

Skylight in shower: this is great idea and really opens up the trailer., bypass the skylight in the entry. Our shade is closed most of the time.
I would do the lithium batteries in the passenger dinette, and plan the solar array myself.
round sink is just fine
compressor fridge
Houghton AC
We have the leather option so the busyness is better than the cloth
I like the front box, other don't.
Light weight propane bottles would be good, you can knee the front of the camper down to aid in removal and refill.
Tv stuff is ok, radio not so much
Hope this helps
Shawn
