Any experience with Ford Escape 2.0L?
Do any of you have knowledge of using a Ford Escape 2.0L as a tow vehicle? I'm getting a side dinette/front bath Scamp 16, 2012. Researching tow vehicles...

We have a 2013 Escape Titaniam Eco Boost with the bigger motor.
We were going to tow our Lil Snoozy with it.
Discovered it didnt have the factory tow package as we were told by the salesman.
I called Ford motors and talked to them.
They said it would better if we didnt tow something of that weight because we didnt have the factory tow package.
I have a nice car but can't tow Snoozy.
When you add all your camping stuff it adds weight.
Does yours have a factory tow package.

I haven't bought one yet, but the info you have provided helps me... I think that I'll weigh the trailer when I get it (empty) and estimate and calculate future gear weight -- then shop for a vehicle.

The Escape like the Rav4 stopped making V6 in 2012. Look for that year or before with a tow pkg.
and V6 and you will be set. 2012 and below will be much cheaper then new. Carl

We have the 2012 Ford Eacape, the last year they put a 6 in a Escape. We installed a transmission cooler, the main item in a tow package. Other than that it's just a wiring harness and hitch, which we have as well. It tows our 16 ft. Scamp easily and we get 19.5 mpg while towing!

A quick internet check of the Ford escape shows a towing capacity of
1,500. To. 2,000 lbs.
Once again a poor choice for towing.
Add weight of passengers and cargo from that tow spec and you don't have much remaining for a travel trailer.
Find a vehicle with a higher tow rating.
Always allow for a 10% safety margin when selecting a tow vehicle.
Remember that passengers and cargo in your vehicle count against the tow rating...every pound counts.
Manufacturers 's websites list tow capacities.
Always check with a dealer for latest specs...just did that for a Toyota product.
Dealer looked up the current ratings with no sales pressure...they are there to help. The manufacturer is the authority not a stranger on the Internet.

The 2012 Ford Escape with a V6 and "properly equipped as per Ford" has a tow rating of 3,500 lbs.
The current models (V6 no longer offered) are rated at 1,500-2,000 pounds.
If it must be a Ford Escape then look for a used 2012 with the V6 and proper equipment as per Ford specs.

Our Ford Escape, now tow rated, is good for 3500 pounds. Tows our 16 with ease!

We just purchased a 2016 Escape with towing our Scamp 16 in mind, we got it with the factory hitch installed. With the factory tow package we are rated at 350lbs of tongue and 3500lbs of trailer weight. I had to install the 7-blade connector and brake controller, we have not towed with it yet, but it has the 2.0L Ecoboost rated at 240 Horsepower and 270 foot lbs of torque, which is higher than our old Tug which was a 2001 Mercury Mountaineer.

Come on now...Ford Escape still rated up to 3,500
The new escapes are still rated to 3,500 with a class II hitch package.
The 2.0L Ecoboost direct injection provides plenty of torque..

Another thought comes to mind, if you are looking at something new the general rule is to have at least 1500 miles on a vehicle before you tow with it.

The original question concerned a Ford Ecsape with a 2.0ltr engine....somehow the subject is directed to 4.0lyr V6 engines.
Answer to original question is 1,500lns-2,000lbs tow rating per Ford Motor Company's site for the 2.0ltr engine....in the interim Rebecca has gone off and bought another vehicle not the Ford.

Haha - no, not yet. I am certainly learning a lot, though. I should have said "2017 2.0L engine" on this...
Per their site:
Maximum 3,500-Lb. Towing
The available 2.0L EcoBoost® engine delivers more than high performance with its Twin-Scroll turbocharger technology. EcoBoost power enables another important capability for the adventurous Escape - a maximum 3,500 lbs. of towing (with the Class II Towing Package) to complement this versatile SUV's spacious cargo capacity of up to 68 cu. ft.

The 2013-2017 Ford Escape 2.0L with tow package is rated at 3500lbs, you just have to look at the specs page to see that option as they don't advertise it well.
The old 2.0L was only rated to 2000lbs but that was prior to the 2013 model year.

Rebecca, If memory serves your travel trailer selection has a real world weight of about 3,000 lbs...if you add the weight of passengers and additional cargo you might be pushing the limit.....just a thought.
Confirm tow limits with ford before you buy.

Looking at the Escape capacities on the 2016 even if you are pulling 3500lbs you still have room to add another 500lbs in the Escape before hitting the GCWR. I believe the Scamp 16 also tends to run closer to 2500lbs loaded than 3000

Real world weight of a Scamp 16 is more like 2500-2600 pounds. The Escape 2.0L Ecoboost is a good match, as are any number of similar alternatives with a 3500 pound tow rating: Chevy Equinox/GMC Terrain V6, Jeep Cherokee, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0L turbo, Kia Sorento 2.0L turbo. Sadly, Toyota and Honda now require you to step up to a larger 3-row SUV to get a similar rating, unless you can find a used RAV4 V6 with the tow package.

Ford options
We have been looking at the same issue with Ford.
My Brother-in-law was a Ford Exec. so we will get a Ford as there is a huge discount available.
It seems that the 2008 Ford Freestyle was not a great choice but it is what we have so it pulls our 16 Scamp. Weight was a key reason we chose Scamp over other FG units as the max the Freestyle can pull is 2K lbs. After the frame cracked last year along the add on receiver hitch mounting points we are thinking we may need to replace the TV.
It would be great not to worry too much about weight in our Scamp and could use more room in the TV and add a screen room etc. with our traveling gear.
We considered the Escape as we do not want a Pick-em up, but still seems limited in weight.
Looks like a better deal is the Explorer.

As far as I know the Escape is rated two ways 3500 with the factory tow package with the electric stabilization modules and whatever else the package includes and 2000 lbs with out the factory package.
The escape is sold as the Kuga in Europe and is rated there at 4629 lbs. ( this is with the 2.0 liter Diesel I believe)
Again this is with the complete towing package including the hitch and electronics ( perhaps any extra cooling etc as well).

I recall that someone on this forum has an Escape with 2L egoboost... er, ecoboost!... and wrote that it seemed very capable. Can't remember who it was now, but he said he was towing as fast as 70 mph.
There was also a discussion where someone had trouble getting the wiring fixed correctly for a brake controller, but I think it was resolved eventually. I'm sure a search for these threads would turn them up.
