Hello FBRVers,
Just want to share my experience about my family camping trip from Calgary, Alberta to Bandon, Oregon and back in our 1980
Bigfoot 17 and 2008 MDX.
If you are skeptical about towing a 17 feet Non-Aerodynamic
Fiberglass trailer with a 6 cylinder SUV, then please don't be.
We are a family of 4 and the SUV was filled with usual stuff for a 3 week camping trip. I experienced almost no issues except the following:
- One the trip from Calgary to Oregon I experienced few trailers sways (I did not use WDH or sway bar). I had attached a very heavy 4 Bicycle rack to the rear bumper of the trailer and topped it with 4 bikes. On the return leg and put 2 bikes inside the trailer. This alone made a huge difference. DO NOT load anything on your trailer bumper !!!!!.
- I had not adjusted my brake controller with the trailer brake. As a result the trailer
tires were seizing even with a
light brake touch and I ended up blowing a trailer tire. Had to change tire on I-5 on a slope with family. Not pretty. Always adjust you brake controller.
Look at the attached pictures.
