Since we're replacing the axle on our '72 Trailmite we thought it best to go ahead and spend the extra $150 and have brakes on our 13' wonder.

Our question is, what brake controller system should we get?? We have a '95 Toyota Tacoma as our primary tug and will on occasion use our '89 Isuzu Trooper.

What control units have you out there FGRV land used and what have you liked or disliked about them?

And, it possible I'd like to find one that uses quick-connectors so that we can have another set of controller's wiring installed on the Trooper and switch the actual control box as needed.

Thanx in advance for your experienced input on this!
Vic

There a number of brake controllers that one could use. Most people i know recommend the prodigy unit. Here are a bunch of them.

Vic & Kathy,
I believe you'll find the most popular brake controller is the Prodigy. I've not heard of anyone either regretting the choice or having any problems with one.
Enjoy the selection process,
Kurt & Ann K.

I have a controller made by Hopkins it is the Impulse model. I took it out of my old Tacoma and put it in my new Tacoma. I needed one immediately so went to Pep Boys, it was the only one they had in stock. It was around $50.00. I have towed Trilliums and Scamps with it over 10000 ft passes in the Rockies and many times over 5 and 6000 foot passes in our local area and have never had a problem. It is very reliable and easy to install.

Prodigy is the most common choice. I unplug mine from its wiring harness when not towing, so you could get another harness and bracket, and move it between vehicles.

I sold my Tekonsha Prodigy with my truck a few months ago. Very good controller. I purchased the new Tekonsha P3 brake controller for my new truck. The P3 is a second generation proportional brake controller. No regrets, worth the money.

Thanx all! A prodigy it is.

Much to do before we head out for two months and 8000 or so miles!
