Changing wheel hubs???

I have a 1983 Fiber Stream with twin axle. The current rims look original and have a 4 on 3 bolt pattern. It seems difficult to find replacements in this size. I'd like more options for rims and tires.
Has anyone with a Fiber Stream switched to a different hub, such as 4 on 4, or 5 on 4.5? If so, is it a do-it yourself job (I have a fair amount of mechanical aptitude) or should I take it to a pro?

Since axles are generally manufactured by axle makers then spec'd and purchased by the trailer maker, it might be usefull to know who the axle maker was and what model.
Failing that, you would need to know the spindle size and whether it is straight or tapered.
Check the bearings, when clean, they have a tiny legible part number stamped into the inner race. Cross the number with those used on more commn hubs.
If you have brakes , or if the hub flange is large enough you might consider redrilling for the desired bolt pattern.
I'm betting that there is a direct fit hub or brake assembly available.
Be aware that straight spindles are commonly 1"(older) and 1-1/16"on the newer ones.

The tire shop I use had no trouble ordering new replacement wheels for my '78. If you decide to replace yours, I like to buy your originals.
