Hi everybody happy spring! And with spring comes camping yea!!!
I'm a little worried about my axle. The trailer is a 1976 scamp I'm not sure how old the axle is, but we got the trailer about 2 yrs ago and just now realizing the axles may be original or just old. I inspected them today and they are opposite of what I was told they should be. The wheel is about 4" higher than the axle. Could this just be an up angle installatiion and not as bad as I fear, or is my torflex so totally shot that it is riding really low? Not much movement of the axle when someone walks around inside.
Wheels are parallel to each other and perpendicular to axle so no towing or tire wear problems so far.
Thanks,
Rick and Marjie

For what it is worth, here is what I'd do: One person on the trailer (in door, or on the bumper, no stabilizer attached) and one looking closely at the wheels versus the wheel arch. Bounce up and down on the trailer. Does the wheel well move up or down in relationship to the wheel? And by how much before it feels solid, as in hitting a bump stop on a car suspension? Is there no less than 3 or 4 inches between the top of the wheel and the inside of the wheel well?

If so you have what the trailer technocrats call "wheel travel" or "suspension travel." So far OK. If there is little or no travel ya need to replace the axle, especially at its advanced age.
