Flexiride Axle

Hello, has anyone put a flexiride axle on their 13 scamp? Looking to get a few more inches of clearance, I poked a hole in my grey water tank😬
It appears you can adjust the height pretty easy with these axles. Any info would be great!

I have not vetted these leads and leave that up to you.
Some maybe helpful. Some not so much. You will have to read multiple posts to determine how much help they are. Some maybe repetitive. And there are more, on this forum alone.

I put one on my 16' Scamp and it works well.
I haven't adjusted it after the original setup.
When I ordered mine I called one of the companies that make them under license to make it for the exact weight I wanted.
I like the idea that I could replace the arm and axle if necessary.
I bought mine with the self adjusting brakes.
Please note that the arm length is a little shorter than the original axle so it mounts in a little different location (in my case further forward.)

I had one put on our 13’ Scamp that had a “leading arm” axle, and changed it to a “trailing arm” axle, and liked it so much that I also had one placed under our Lil Snoozy. I usually only adjust the trailer height once a year when we take the LS out with our 4x4 club off road for a 3 nighter.
Best of luck

One thing that can be done is the axle builder will fabricate your axle to match the actual weight of your trailer.
In my case I had the axle made for a 3000 lb trailer weight instead of the standard 3500 lbs..
While the strength of the axles etc is good for 3500 lbs the spring rate of the rubber suspension is designed to give a better ride and much less pounding of the trailer and contents.
I suppose the other manufacturers could do the same thing if you asked them to do it.
I assume that the length of the rubber makes the difference

I am looking to make my new axle a "trailing" on my 82 scamp. How did it go mounting yours on the "lower" / forward section of the frame? did you have to reinforce the frame? did you weld or bolt? I am looking at the Dexter #9 with brakes.

Thanks.

I went with the Flexiride so that I could choose the angle after purchase. With the Dexter you must choose at order time. If I ever put another on I would buy the brackets that I would have welded on and the bolt to them.

Hi redbarron55,
Were your axles leading? Did you make them trailing?

I have a 16' 1985 Scamp that had trailing arms and a dead one at that. I replaced it with a Flexiride that I had made using the basic 3500 lb mechanicals, but with the spring rubber calibrated for 3000 lbs so that the ride would not be as harsh.
It has worked out well for me. I bought it with 10" brake drums and self adjusting brakes with 5 lugs.
The old axle had 7" 4 lug drums and hubs and I bought new 14" wheels and tires for a higher rating.
I set the trailer on jack stands at the height I wanted and set the angle on the Flexiride to give me that.
Also if for some reason you damage an axle or arm they are replaceable individually.
