Hi There Fiberglass RV Folks... I haven't written in a long time. My Boler's been sitting in the snow all winter. It is time to get her ready for another season!

I'm in need of trailer brakes, and sadly, installing them on the existing axle is not an option. I do not need to raise or lower the trailer in any way, I just need a replacement axle that's easy to install and has trailer brakes. Any suggestions?

P.S. It's a 75 Boler - I'm towing with a Subaru Forester.

Many thanks, and happy boler'ing!

Michelle from the Yukon (brrrr... it's still cold here)

Hi Michelle,
You could try checking out anyplace local that works on trailers, they do not need to be RV places since they have access to all the various manufactures and are experienced in what needs to be done.

Most likely your trailer has a leading arm torsion axle. There is disagreement on putting brakes on a leading arm set up. I like to think that I've written a fairly comprehensive post on replacing an axle. To anybody looking at it, it might seem over researched and over engineered - but I like to be thorough. This might be a good spot to start so you can ask your own questions.

With the official start of spring about a week away, I'd appreciate it if you kept the cold up there.

Thank you very much for this Roy - this will definately come in handy. Camping season doesn't begin up here until May - we have a long way to go, and I have a lot of work to do on our little boler.

It does not start down here till May either. I suppose that's why they call it the Great White North.
