Trailer: 1994 Bigfoot 21 ft

I am thinking of getting new tires tomorrow (leaving for a long trip friday) for my 21 foot tandem axle Bigfoot. Currently have 14 inch rims and old trailer tires. I am thinking of getting some of these:

http://ricks-tire.com/product_info.php?pro...b264e1acf684e00

with, of course, new trailer 6 ply rubber to match (Titan tires). The guy at peters tirecraft said they should fit fine (i got my axles flipped last month for 5 inches of more travel) but they will stick out one inch more. As far as I can tell the one inch won't be an issue.

anyone see any issues with this?

thanks

Simon

Umm, site said they only have two in stock...

Be sure that the wheels are suitable for the tire pressures (may be stamped inside wheels).

Spend a few bucks extra and get good HP metal valve stems.

You'll like the extra clearance and the towing might also be easier with less underside 'air dam' in front of trailer.

Yeah, i am getting them locally here (in stock) - just found that for reference purposes.

thanks for the info though. will ask for the metal valve stems for sure.

Do you think that changing the wheel size will effect braking, since the brakes were chosen based on a different wheel size? Or maybe wheel size doesn't influence brake dynamics?

Yes, it could but I'm guessing you guys have 10" brakes, which cover a large range of wheel sizes (esp if there are brakes on both axles, as some jurisdictions require). I think most of my cars only had 8" brakes (I could be wrong about that; it's been a while since I had a car).

I've found trailer brakes to usually be more than enough to lock up the wheels (typical starting point for adjusting brake controller).

I'd be checking carefully, of course, if I was putting 16" wheels on axle with 7" brakes.
