Minit Trailer 1973

Hello Minit Trailer Owners!!

I am purchasing a Minit trailer (1972) - I understand there are not many of them out there, but they are a copy of the Boler.

I want to add brakes - Has anyone with a Minit done this?

The axle is different to the Boler, it has springs and an overslung axle. I have included a picture. The Axle is not the usual (maybe for clearance) and is very different to anything I can find.

Hi there. We have a 74. It’s equipped with surge brakes that were taken out of service a long time ago, but I think I can replace the brake assemblies; I have to do a final measure on the backing plates but on my preliminary measure it looked like they were a standard bolt pattern. I don’t see an image attached to the post, so I can’t see if there’s a backing plate on your axle or not. I’m not sure if the backing plate can be added if it’s not there, and if not, your solution would be to change out the axle. If you find yourself wanting to go that route, best thing to do is take it to a shop that works on trailers - not RV specific, but a trailer repair shop. Some won’t work on travel trailers but many of them will. They can come up with a solution. One shop I stopped at said if I wanted to do that, they’d build a subframe to weld the new axle to. These shops do all sorts of custom modifications to trailers, so they can figure something out.

Welcome to the Minit world!
