We just had our axles replaced on our 2007 Bigfoot 25RQ. The stock 3500# axles were sagging and tire wear was uneven. Upgraded to 6000# axles and springs, with all new shackles and greaseable bushings/bolts. Had to replace wheels since new brakes were 6 lug instead of the stock 5. With 200 miles towed so far, it’s like a new trailer. Porpoising has all but stopped, and side to side rocking is gone. Rock solid. We tow with a Silverado 2500HD Duramax diesel and couldn’t be happier with the results. IMHO the stock axles aren’t up to the job on a trailer that heavy. Happier trails!

You made a very smart move. I think you also got larger brakes. The 3500# axles used 10 inch drums while the 6000# axles have 12 inch brake drums.

The brakes seem better, too, but too soon to tell. They‘ seem more like the ones on our 17.5 , more effective.

This is Scott and Bonny. We have a 2024 Bigfoot 25 rear twin and wish to do the same upgrades for increased reserve and capacity. One of the reasons for this is we a have the Lippert Ground Control TT installed and this system weighs roughly 455 lbs. This leaves very little capacity for all the items we tend to pack and travel with.

Do to the limitations of the stock axle spacing and wheel wells, it is not feasible or advisable to move the spring hangers to accommodate different length heavier duty springs.

Please share with us the specific Dexter springs you used with your 5200lb or 6000lb axle upgrade with the corresponding 6 lug hubs and stronger bearings that come with this upgrade.

I am also interested in hearing of your also changed the equalizer to the Dexter EZ Flex equalizer.
