New Tow Vehicle for the Scamp 16!

Hi all,

After towing with my poor Cadillac ATS, I have finally acquired a more appropriate tow vehicle!

I'm sure the 7,500lbs max tow rating will make all the difference.

You will love it!...
Mine is "suddenly" 2-1/2 years old and still flawless and way plenty of power for a Scamp!

Overkill, unless you need a truck for other tasks.

Not so much overkill as a fullsized truck but you do have a point...

I pulled my Scamp for many years with my Escape and later my Transit Connect. Both did well.
However, the Ranger does the job with absolute impunity!, and does so in a relatively compact package delivering far more power while still providing even better fuel economy. It is pleasant and comfortable to drive and parks in an ordinary space like a midsized SUV.

A truck also provides storage area distinct from the passenger area which allows for carrying volatiles, firewood, wet camping gear, and larger items safely away from the passenger area.

That being said, I still LOVE my TC and it does the job well.

The Ranger should be even better than my F150. I think that both your Cadillac and my Lincoln are both rated for towing 1,000 Lbs. Add to that, my f-150 rides better than my Lincoln. Depending on the engine and gearing, it should get good MPG. My V6 f150 gets low to mid teens towing and high teens non towing. Best ever was in the low twenties and 400 miles between fills is common towing and 500 miles between fills is common non towing. (but do not push it in unknown areas) You will love it.

New TV for 16 Scamp

Congratulations on the truck. It will certainly pull your scamp and a whole lot more. A look at our highways show that a whole lot of people prefer trucks over cars. Our 16' Scamp weighs in at 2250 with empty tanks. We've pulled it these past 8 yrs with a 2013 Ford Edge. The steepest grades found were in the stretch from the Grand Tetons to Idaho and the Edge handled it without a wimper. Truth is I can almost forget the scamp is back there if I'm not in the mountains with those tight switchbacks. We get 15 mpg pulling at 60-70 if there's not a strong headwind. The edge averages 24+ tank to tank when not towing. The 15mpg is towing say from MI to TX with the trailer pretty much hooked up the whole time. The 24 is our regular solo driving and we live in rural MI. Never seen a cadillac used as a tow but it sounds like like comfortable and pleasant travelling.

Great choice! Our 2020 Ranger pulls our 16’ Scamp beautifully. Bonus: the truck bed makes packing a snap.

Congratulations

We love our 19 Ranger and have the same color. We average 19 to 20 mpg with a 17 ft Casita tagging along behind. Living in WA state with have plenty of passes to travel thru and never a problem. Cross country was great and smooth ride. Enjoy!!

In Australia we have the new Ranger and Amarok coming out next year. Both Pickups were designed and developed here for 180 markets including the US market. Top engine choices will be the 3 Litre 255hp Diesel V6 and the 2.7 Litre Ecoboost, outside the US
