Just back from two different
fiberglass rallies in two weeks.
First was 600 miles and the second was 300.
Getting used to an automatic transmission for the first time in 45 years.
The combo with my Scamp13 was smooth, stable and efficient with an average of 21MPG+ while towing at 60MPH.
Acceleration is adequate and power is sufficient.
The first trip was an exciting shakedown experience with thunderstorms, dangerous winds, extreme rain, and even a detour to avoid quarter sized hail.
Long stretches of strong head winds were followed at last by ideal conditions and a nice tailwind.
The ride was smooth and quiet throughout with amazing stability in high winds and thunderstorms.
This is a near perfect match for my 13, plenty up to the task, but not to be confused with gross overkill.
Ford says not to tow faster than 70MPH and I will not likely ever report any long distance tows over 60.
With no trailer it returns about 27MPG at 78MPH and 22 around town.
Bottom line...
I'm learning to tolerate (maybe even like) the 6spd automatic.
I'm satisfied that we made a good choice for our needs.
Caveat...I have always said that you don't ever really know how good a vehicle is until the day after you sell it!
