Newbie's first questions

We are considering a light weight travel trailer (Scamp, Casita, Jayco, ?). We will tow it with a 2012 Toyota Highlander, 6 cylinder with tow package.

Does a two axled trailer tow easier than one? (Other posts indicate two axles are primarily a safety measure, but necessitate more maintenance. Agreed?)

What brake options should we be aware of?

How big a help are load balanced hitches? (Other posts indicate that for small trailers they are unnecessary, especially if third row seats can be removed. Agreed?)

Does $8900 for a 2012, clean Starcraft AR One, 14RB sound like a good deal?
Thanks

I wouldn't buy it, but then I am a fan of fibreglass. For that price, you could buy an older fibreglass trailer, and it would still outlive the Starcraft.

As that is not a fiberglass trailer, you might get a better answer on another forum.

I haven't seem many used ones for sale. From my perusing the forums, it seems like fiberglass owners are more outdoor people and attend to the details of their homes, like us. We have been tent campers, but greater fears in bear country where we now spans at least half of the year. I'll look again. Thanks

More will come onto the market as summer approaches. Last year, around the middle of summer, when you would expect the prices to be high, there were lots of trailers, and the prices were much better then they have been this winter.

The term is "weight distribution", as in "weight distributing hitch", or "weight distribution system"; looking for and asking about these things by the right name will probably lead to more information. While some other (misleading) names are used for them, I have never heard the term "load balanced hitch", and there's nothing balanced about them.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.
