My 93' "lil"Bigfoot with factory installed Dexter axle, with 7" Dexter brake drums has no washers. I was concerned. I have been repacking them. there is no slot for a notched washer. I have felt the cap for heat. I am replacing the axle, so the washer is a moot topic now. I have looked for castle nut and washer combinations, I have found them, I just did not buy a new set. It's hard to imagine that the P.O. of the trailer, would be doing a grease repacking and leave both washers off ! I had looked at the nut relationship to the outside bearing over and over, how it made contact with the outside ring, I asked myself why no washer ? I am at a loss of what is real, with the bearings. So what is the consensus ? If you find there are no washers, whether the rig is brand new or old; do you put them on ? If one were missing I would buy 2 new castle nuts and washers. MY consensus input, I guess, is I did nothing, I guess I have been lucky.

Later Kenny

I'm hearing this from other people too... I guess some just don't have washers. I'll keep updating if I ever get a definitive answer.
