Many posts have mentioned checking the wheel bearings, but I can't find exactly how to do this. Does my 1978 Burro have bearings that need to be removed to be cleaned and greased or do I have grease fittings somewhere (can't find any!)? Do I pry off the dust cover to find the bearings behind the locking nut? Do I need new grease seals to do this or can I reuse an old seal? Any help is appreciated!

On the Dexter axle site (www.dexteraxle.com) are numerous, informative PDFs that are available for downloading, including one on how to service bearings and what greases they recommend. Look under the Literature button and axles under 2,200 lbs.

Thanks. I'll check it out. I've done this job for years on my old VW vehicles, but I didn't want to damage anything on my first try with our Burro.

On 5 April Joe Drissel started a post titled "Wheel Bearings" that went on for 3 pages and covered good ground in the process. Did you find that one?
