Replacing 19' scamp axle

I am replacing the axle for my 1987 19' scamp.
The frame is broken behind the wheel well and I am stiffening both sides to carry the load on the back hitch, which is a Turd Toter, bike rack and two bikes.
What weight axle should I get?

Heavier axles

I was at the homecoming rally last summer, a fellow scamp 5th wheel owner told me that scamp was looking at a 4000 pound axle for the 5th wheel trailers. They have been using 3500 pound axles before.

I have a 2008 deluxe I weighed fully loaded, 2 bikes on the back, full of water, I had 3450 on the axle. The 3500 pound axle will carry 3500 pounds so you could subtract the weight of the wheel, hubs and brakes. So I was at about 3300-3350 that the axle was carrying. So 150-200 pounds from maxing out. The real problem is the spindle bearing assembly (#84 spindle) is rated at 1750 per side.

I had a bearing failure one time, I had checked the wheel bearing before I left on the trip, and they were good, checked the bearing temp every so often, they seemed fine, were not even running a little warm, but it was a day in the 90-95 degrees and I had about a 15-20 mile per hour side wind the whole day. And yes they were full of grease, there was grease all over the side of the trailer after the failure. So either the added stress of the side wind with the heat lead to the failure, or the rubber easylube cap fell off. (I have had new easylube rubber caps rot away over the winter and the trailer was inside, they look fine until you take them off, and then you can see the cracks and tears)

I am sure the 3500 pound axle would be adequate for the weight of the trailer without the added stress severe side wind and heat.
