Ridgeline

Hello folks

I'm not even a decent newbie yet but I'm studying hard and am likely to end up with a Casita Spirit Deluxe or equal.
I own a 2018 AWD Ridgeline. The numbers seem to work but I know there's knowledge in here. I appreciate any advice.

We succesfuly towed our 2009 FD over 20,000 miles with a 2008 Ridgeline. It did a fine job.

I realize that your 2018 is somewhat different. We currently have a 2019 Pilot and tow a smaller fiberglass trailer with it.

A lot of people tow the Escape 19 with a Pilot, Highlander, or Ridgeline (all 3 roughly equally capable) with pretty good results. The Spirit Deluxe is a size smaller, so it'll definitely be fine.

The Ridgeline has a higher tongue weight rating (600# vs. 500#) compared to the Pilot, Passport, Highlander, and other passenger SUVs in the same class. That would be a good thing for a 17’ Casita, which typically runs heavy on the tongue. AWD is required for the 5000/600# rating.

Seems like a decent combination to me, assuming you won’t be traveling with too many people or too much gear, which reduces towing capacity. Hill-climbing will be adequate, but not like a full-sized V8 or Ecoboost truck.

Which transmission do you have?

I towed a Casita Spirit Deluxe with my 2018 Ridgeline (RT-L, AWD) without any problems at all. I used a Reese Friction Anti-sway bar. I never drove the trailer without the Reese hitch so can't comment on towing without the Friction hitch. We live in Kansas and drove up and down mountains visiting our son in Northern California, drove to Texas, camped locally etc. Never had issues towing. The truck is not "over powered" for the trailer, but it certainly handled it well for the way we drive, which is slowly . . . FWIW, on the trip to and from California last summer, the digital display said we got 18.8 mpg, although I'm pretty sure that is exaggerated by at least 8 or 9%. The mpg displays tend to be wishful thinking.

I've ordered the Reese Friction Bar. Yeah. I don't know about that 18 mpg. pulling my 18' CC boat dug it down to under 15.
