Photo illustrates the original factory condition for mounting the "two" chains - bolt thru one link which, as you note, downgrades strength to that of one chain. Chain showing on the far left of the photo is just loose end of the same chain hanging over the front of the coupler. I should have kept that out of the photo to avoid confusion.

With that info you can figure out what acceleration they can handle when pulling a 2,000 lb trailer.
I agree, except I did loos my rig going over a train track too fast. The Chanís did their job perfectly!
