scamp fith wheel hitch

I just bought a scamp 19 fifth wheel and I need to install the old style hitch. My problem is it was previously installed on a ford ranger. the cross bar was cut to fit the ranger,It measures39 1/2 and I need 49 5/8. None of the metal or fabrication shops have what I need or are closed due to covid-19. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can find a used Reece 5th wheel hitch for $100 plus or minus. Install the rails and then either convert the hitch to accept a ball or change the yolk on the Scamp to be a true 5th wheel. Neither option is all that difficult. I have had both style hitch's and the new style is far better. Think about it. If you broke down somewhere how would anyone be able to tow your Scamp without that specialty hitch.

thanks for suggestions Steve. I have considered those options but I already have the old style minus the cross bar,I would prefer not to spend any more money on another hitch. As for having to be towed, the guy who delivered the scamp used an adjustable hitch, so in emergency it could be towed with a ball hitch

I can't recall what the crossbar on the Scamp hitch consists of. Was it 4" wide C channel? If so, Metals Depot sells any length and strength you want.

Glad it worked out!
Have fun with your Scamp, we love ours even though it's only a 16. :-)
We'll be up in NY right after Labor Day at Samson state park.
