I'm doing a little preventative work on my boler. I did have a crack so I thought may as well do a frame off work over. Other than the crack the frame is in great shape. The axle is 35 years old and that bothers me. It still has bounce and their is no signs of the tire rub. My question is....Is the anle of my torsion arm close to original, at original, or no where near original? Please let me know what you think.

Original is 0 degrees (parallel with the frame) unloaded. Yours looks about the same as mine on my 77 Scamp. It was rubbing on one side. I'll be replacing my axle during my restoration.

A crack in the frame may be due to a bad axle. If the axle has no bounce left, all the bumps in the road go directly to the frame. I just replaced my 1970's somethings 13 ft Scamp axle and used the Dexter 22.5 degree down axle which Scamp shows to use per: http://scamptrailers.com/Portals/0/S...nersManual.pdf on page 7 of 16. It worked out great.
My frame was also cracked due to the bad axle that was replaced. Bolers may however have a different start angle. If your trailer seems to be riding low to the ground, thats another good indication your axle is shot. I gained several inches of clearance after changing mine.
