Towing with Traverse

Quick question. I tow a Scamp with16 Deluxe, no problem. Son would like to borrow for weekend. We offered use of our TV (Tahoe) with heavy duty tow package. He still prefers use of his vehicle. Your opinion or recommendation would be appreciated
Thanks, barb

First off, you need to know the actual weight of your trailer loaded for camping. Second, your son needs to look through his owner's manual to see what his tow rating is. He will also need to make sure his tow vehicle connector matches what the trailer has. Finally, he needs to check and make sure with the trailer tongue weight, luggage and passengers that he doesn't exceed the Gross vehicle weight limit for his vehicle.

The Chevy Traverse has a listed towing capacity of 1500 to 5000 lbs dependent on how the vehicle is equipped.

I also tow with a Chevy Tahoe it can't be beat, best thing he could do is take you up on your offer. He won't even know the trailer is behind him. The Tahoe is rated at over 8000 lbs and has air suspension on the rear for leveling.

I used to tow a 17’ Casita with my Traverse and it was fine. I estimated it to be around 3500 lbs loaded. Traverse tow package rating is 5000lbs so I felt that was enough leeway.

I tow my Boler 17 (2500 lb. dry/empty) easily with my 2017 Traverse. The Boler 17 tows better behind the Traverse than the Trillium 4500 that is 1000 lbs lighter.

Here are the details:

- My 2017 Traverse with V92 factory tow package is rated to tow 5000 lb. and 600 lb. trailer tongue weight
- The V92 tow package includes a 7-pin connector, heavy duty transmission cooler, transmission tow mode button, and under dash connector for brake controller
- I always use my Prodigy P3 brake controller (requires a cable adapter under the dash) to activate the trailer brakes when braking.
- We always pre-check the trailer lights and brakes before towing. This is done while parked.
- To pre-check the trailer brakes with the Prodigy P3 brake controller, engage the manual override switch. While doing this, have a second person listen to each brake on the trailer. The trailer brakes should emit a buzzing sound.

So in summary, if the Traverse has the V92 tow package and if a brake controller is installed and being used, this setup should be OK for towing your trailer.

EDIT: Oh another thing. I never tow over 65 MPH.
