trailer brake setting in tow vehicle

Bigfoot 21 owners and others….

in my ram 1500 trailer control there is a choice in the trailer brake type functions between light or heavy electric, light or heavy Electric over hydraulic.
What selection have you made? I have the 2005 bigfoot 21. Thanx for any education.

My Ford wants low/ light , electric.
Your trailer does not have hydraulic brakes.

In researching further, the selection for the RAM/Bigfoot combo appears to be light electric.
When would one use the other modes?

This is from Ford but, I suspect, the principle is similar for other brands,

Trailer Brake Effort Setting
The trailer brake controller allows the user to customize how aggressively the trailer brakes engage. The default value is "Low" and is the recommended setting for most trailers. If your trailer's brakes require more initial voltage, or if you prefer more aggressive trailer braking, then select either the "Medium" or the "High" setting

Jon MB here, not Bonnie. Don't blame her for my postings....
The selection is narrowed by the brake type: All electric (electric solenoid to press the friction material against the hub or disk), or combination electric/hydraulic (electric pump to pressurize brake fluid that then presses the friction material).
The correct selection is dictated by the brake type installed on the trailer.
The 'light' or 'heavy' selection is operator preference.
