David,
Last year was the first year so this year will be a little bigger. This is a fiberglass gathering at which Escapes predominate. Parties interested in an Escape will even be able to see Tammy and Reace this year apparently, the owners of Escape, coming all the way from Chilliwack, BC.

Recreationdotgov has the maps and shows what is booked, with the main loop for this gathering almost filled. Some are booked in the next loop. There are showers and the usual amenities, electric hook-ups. This is Army Corps so seniors get half price.

It is right on the Mississippi with small towns around that some may want to visit.

There will be a gathering of minds at some point if they haven't had too much craft beer. Many of the owners will show their trailers.

All types of fiberglass are welcome and there were some Scamps and Casitas last time, I believe.

Paul organizes it and more is on the Escape forum. He will likely be on here shortly.

Good response Cathi, so much better than the official banter you get from me.

Mark your calendar and make your reservations. September 30 to October 1, are the dates for the second Mississippi River Rendezvous. The event this year will be at another beautiful US Army Corp of Engineer campground in Thomson, Illinois. Called Thomson Causeway, the campground features four campground loops and two shelter houses, all in sight of the Big Muddy.

Campsites can be reserved at Federal recreation, camping and tour reservation information - Recreation.gov with some sites still left in the 99-126 loop. It is recommended to select in the range of sites 1-78 if the first mentioned loop is filled. These sites are all within easy walking distance and will provide plenty of opportunity to interact. Sites 79-98 are close by but probably require a drive due to the slough and causeway.

Nearby activities include the sleepy village of Thomson, the city of Savanna and its famous biker bar, Poopys, with a sister village of Sabula Iowa. The twin cities of Fulton and Clinton have an interesting Dutch heritage and also host the Wild Rose casino. The Great River Trail passes through the campground and offers a flat and paved 60 mile surface for biking or hiking.

At the event we have rented the shelter “Stone” for Saturday and will have a wine and beer tasting in the late afternoon. More details will be forthcoming. Trailer tours will be starting at noon and run until the start of happy hour.

There will be the First Annual Lugnuts Championship, held at a time and location to be determined. Specifics for the event will be available 30 seconds before the start.

Reace and Tammy Harmatuik, the owners of Escape Trailer Industries will be attending the rally this year. At other rallies they have attended they always seem to bring the latest and newest offerings from the Escape production line. This may be your chance to see those new Escape models just coming out of design. It is always a pleasure meeting and sharing with them, I know we welcome their presence.

If you are planning to attend or have already booked a site, thanks and welcome. Drop me an email at this address with your site number and I can keep better track of who is attending. Day visitors are always welcome. Prospective owners and all brands of trailers are welcome. Past events have included many makes and models.

Keep camping and we hope to see you on the Mississippi.

My wife Becky and I Just made reservations in site #105. I believe it is the last one in the loop.
We have never been to a fiberglass rally before. We just got our 2008 Outback in April. We only live about 40 miles from Thompson.
We do have a Camp Inn teardrop and go to Tearjerker rally's.
Looking forward to meeting you.

I plan to attend. I reserved site 118. I have an Oliver Travel Trailer--Elite II. I'll be coming from near Iowa City, Iowa. My camper was the subject of "Escape meets Ollie" on this forum. I met a very nice Escape owner at Mesa Verde National Park earlier this year and he posted photos and comments that generated a lot of discussion on the forum! Looking forward to meeting other fiberglass camper owners from Iowa and Illinois.

Well, as fate would have it, we won't be coming to the rally after all. My husband accepted a new job in Texas and we have to be there by Oct 1. I'm very disappointed, but happy to be headed back to Texas. Y'all have fun without us and we'll see you down the road!

Adrian, it hit me about 2 in the morning, I remembered the bus that moved in next to you last fall after we cancelled and I figured I better do what I could to make sure a good fiberglass guy and lady next to us. Hope things are going well on the Manitoba prairie tonight. I could use an ice cream cone from the pool lady about now.

Hope this question from a couple of RV wannabes gets a response. We'd like to drive down from Madison, WI, to tour some of the FGRV's. Do we need an entrance permit (other than a park permit)?
Regards, Mike & Mary

You will be able to drive right in. There are no gate fees. Keep straight after passing the booth and head for the river, there are a small number of parking spaces near the two shelters on the shoreline.

Andy

I've reserved #55 for the gathering on the river. I have the silver turtle U-Haul CT13. Just got back from a 11,000 mile trip to Alaska and back to St. Louis. See you. Andy

We are cancelling our reservation in site #105 for the rally.
We just got back from Thomson Causeway from attending a Tearjerkers rally.
Because of problems created by the current campground host and Corps Ranger with a couple from out of state. The couple forgot to register at the entrance shack when they arrived. They were preregistered and prepayed.
Rather than the hosts and the Corps Rangers ability to handle the situation in a respectable non-confrontational manner the Ranger chose to come to their campsite after dark, after they had gone to bed and make a big deal of it, rather than politely handle the situation the next morning.
We feel compelled to cancel our reservation rather than further spend any money in the area.

Thompson causeway Jody call needed.

Sorry we won't get to camp with you next weekend. I've stayed in many COE campgrounds and I find that all you have to remember is It's the ARMY corps of engineers. Your left Your Left Your left right left. I don't know but I been told, The campground ranger can be mighty cold.

I wonder if no one was at the gate apparently to check them in? I believe the Rangers routinely come around at night to see to it that no one is there who has not paid or who is in the wrong site, and they expect to see the stub or tag at the vehicle. They may have had more than a few people at campgrounds who did not pay or whatever. They both do rounds to try to make certain that everyone belongs there, which is security for the rest of us. So, yes, they do that at night when people who do not belng possibly think they can get in unnoticed.

Too bad no one had checked them in. On a weekend, there should be gate attendants. Most of the hosts and Rangers we have seen at many Corps campgrounds have been quite good.
