2017, March 30-April 3: Fool's Gathering

Fool’s Gathering: March 30 - April 3, 2017 Whiskeytown Lake NRA

If you are wondering why it's called the "Fool's Gathering", the gathering occurs over April 1 - April Fool's Day!

This will be just a simple FG gathering at Brandy Creek RV Park in Whiskeytown NRA,
14 miles west of Redding, off of CA Hwy 299.
Senior Access Pass holders have free admission, and half price camping fees ($7.50).
Pay when you get there. No reservations can be made. 32 sites in the park are available on a first come first served basis.
That means you could come and go as you please.
We have been told that use of this RV park is light at this time of year.
There are no planned activities so you can act as your own activity director.

The RV park is near the lake and is a simple, paved area in the trees with a dump station & fresh water supply
(no restrooms near by, no hookups) and a few picnic tables.
However, the lake is always full for those who like to kayak or fish (all types of boats are available to rent).
If you are up for it, a refreshing swim at one of the 3 beach/swimming areas.
There are miles of hiking/biking trails, some leading to 4 different waterfalls and 2 mountain tops.
Only 7 miles to Shasta State Historical Park for a step back in time to the gold rush era.
You can also run back into exciting Redding for a night out if you have a need.
The weather may be warm and sunny, or it could be cold and rainy, or something in between.
At least it would not be 110 degrees in the shade! The altitude of the area is about 1300 feet so snow is unlikely.

If we have piqued your interest, you can contact us through the PM service of this website for more information.

Senior access Pass

Earl, thanks for the info. I am interested in the Senior Access Pass. Is this a Cali park pass?

Wish I had my Scamp but must be patient.

Yah, Redding can be HOT! We live in Santa Rosa, so get up there occasionally.

Have camped at Whiskey Town lake, many years ago!

Mark

Whiskeytown

This is a nice area, nice campground, interesting nearby Shasta City, now a ghost town with rows of empty brick store fronts. Inexpensive too ; but a bit far north for some fiberglas owners. David in Fresno and Sonora

Fools Weekend

Looks like a good excuse to get Scamp out of winter storage...it's on my calendar, barring 7 hours of I-5 driving in bad weather (late snow over Trinity Alps).

When I said it was a ways north, I was referring to Calif; it is near the 'top' of Calif. A long way for me in Sonora, or even farther from where my Scamp is in Fresno. But for you, a 'little' ways south. But worth the drive. Stay in Calif a while as long as you are down here. David in Fresno and Sonora

David, it's only 4.5 hrs from Sonora, but 7 from Portland. I used to work in General Grant Grove, Kings Canyon NP, making monthly supply runs to Fresno. Definitely will make a loop trip.

It should be a nice drive from Sacramento, nice roads , and beautiful green hills this early in the year. And for anyone who is wondering about buying a Scamp; Dan's Trailer Rental near Sacramento (Woodland?) rents a 13 footer, as well as a 17' Casita and other trailers.

Fool's Gathering, Whiskeytown Lake, March 30-April 3

We are just 4 weeks away from our Whiskeytown Lake April Fools Gathering.
If you are interested there is still time to join us.

Please send us a PM so we have a general idea of how many people to look for.

The gathering will be held at Brandy Creek RV Park in Whiskeytown NRA, 14 miles west of Redding, off of CA Hwy 299.
Senior Access Pass holders have free admission, and half price camping fees ($7.50).
Pay when you get there. No reservations can be made.
32 sites in the park are available on a first come first served basis.
That means you could come and go as you please.
Several of us will be arriving a few days early.
We have been told that use of this RV park is light at this time of year.

The weather may be warm and sunny, or it could be cold and rainy, or something in between.
At least it would not be 110 degrees in the shade! The altitude of the area is about 1300 feet so snow is unlikely.
Of course you are under no obligation to attend if you have a change of plans, or it starts to rain.

The RV park is near the lake and is a simple, paved area in the trees with a dump station & fresh water only
(no restrooms near by) and a few picnic tables.
There are no planned activities so you can act as your own activity director.

If you have any further questions or comments, you can contact us through the PM service of this website. - - Earl A
