For folks arriving to the rally, the best park entrance is turning east off highway 187 a couple miles north of Fayette, Iowa. After passing the winery and getting to the stop sign, turn right on the blacktop and follow the curve around left to another T-intersection. Turn left, go about a mile, and turn right at the restroom building to Lakeview Campground. The campground is up the hill, with dump station and water on the left (if you need either).

Having been there last year and making all the wrong turns , here is a slightly more detailed version of Kevin’s directions.

After passing thru Fayette, highway 187 northbound becomes highway 150 (northbound). The street sign when turning right (east) off the highway toward the winery is 175th Street (with a directional for Ivy Rd). Ivy Rd is the stop sign that Kevin mentioned (dirt road to the left; paved road to the right). Turn right onto Ivy Rd. When you see the wooden sign “trails” avoid the temptation to turn off Ivy Rd to the Volga Recreation Area maintenance offices. Continue on Ivy Rd until you come to another stop sign (at the T intersection) where you will turn left onto I Ave. Eventually, you will see a sign directing you to turn right onto a road that ultimately gets you to the Volga Lake Campground.

Well, the Pink Elephant Rally is over for another year. We had 13 trailers in total, with 25 folks. The weather turned out much nicer than forecast (except for Sunday) and we had a wonderful time seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Hopefully Pike’s Peak State Park will be ready for next year’s gathering, May 12-14, 2023, near McGregor, Iowa.
