A perfect spot for Charles

We found the perfect spot for Charles to go camping --- there are no trees to suddenly smack him and there is lots of room to backup as well.

I'm talking about Rock Hound Sate Park which is about 20 miles south of Deming New Mexico. (Go a little father south and you can stay at Pancho Villa state park).

We had some fortune as we were between some of the "too" seasons like in --- too hot, too cold, and too many snow birders. As it was, we had the place almost to ourselves and the weather was just delightful with a stong breeze.

Most of the sites have water and electricity. There is a nice restroom with showers. The sites are all level, big and the whole campground is very well maintained and clean.

One unique aspect of this park is that they allow you to collect rocks --- quartz, blue agate, white-pink common opel and jasper, to name a few.

Charles will like this one:

Pretty pictures Ted!

Wow! Nice photography Ted! And you're right, it looks better with no trees!

Hey, did you find any stones? If so, I'd like to see some photos!

Pam and I try to pick up a rock, pebble or shell from each trip. We have a rock garden ... couldn't tell you what type is what ... but I know the garden is full of hard reminders of a whole bunch of trips!

A deliveryman once even brought Pam a little fossil rock ... he said it was "because I could see you like rocks." Pam didn't have the heart to tell him that no, we don't necessarily like rocks ... we just love to travel in our little bitty trailer!

I'm putting Rock Hound State Park on our list for the future!

Sure hope they keep the trees cut down!

Stones

Charles,

We found a few stones but they are not too impressive. Like you, we have been known to pick up a stone now and then. I'll see if there are any pics worth posting next week. But for now I have to finish loading up the egg ...........

Nice

Ted: That was one beautiful picture. What a nice place to stay and a favorite of ours as well, no trees jumping out at us. Thanks for sharing it with us. Now for the time to hitch up and travel away......

Ted,

Nice pictures.

Charles,
I noticed that you posted that you are headed to Florida. I wanted to caution you about a new law. If a police officer is stopped on the side of the road with lights flashing, you must move over a lane or reduce speed to 25mph. This went into effect the first of the year.

Sorry about being off subject.

I wanna see a copy of that law.

..and I want to know why it is that on a 2,3-6 lane highway we all come to a standstill because lights are flashing..........

*RANT* :o

There's no reason for it, Rick, it's just policy. :r

Remember . . . . this is in Florida. They took a vote on this concern and the dimples won!

Seriously, an officer on the side of the road with lights flashing as in "traffic stop", doesn't seem like a 25mph event. Probably one of those well intended ideas that got turned around.

safety

Rick, I'm sure you already know this is an issue that speaks toward the safety of the peace officer and the other parties in the traffic stop. A few minutes of our time is not a big deal if everyone gets home safe. Add 30 minutes to your trip plan.

The public can contribute by not rubbernecking!!:omy

That was my point! It's even more frustrating on a divided highway when the police have someone pulled over in one direction - yet the other direction slows down - rubbernecking for sure.
