First Annual Southeast Spring Eggscursion

If you are an owner of a Casita, Scamp or any other similar camper
come join us on the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains at the Lazy Daze
Campground in Townsend, Tennessee on April 24-26, 2008.

While there won't be formal events, there will be group activities,
such as meals or trips to take advantage of the area.

If you haven't been to Townsend before you are in for a treat.
Townsend's nickname is "The Peaceful Side of the Smokies." The Little
River runs along the campground and provides swimming, fishing and
tubing. In addition, within Townsend there is an 5 mile paved bike and
jogging trail along the river walk paralleling the Little River. Cades
Cove is nearby and popular for its hiking and biking trails, panoramic
vistas, and many forms of wildlife.

But the big event is the 16th Annual Townsend in the Smokies Spring
Festival & Old Timers Day. Held at the Townsend Visitor Center (only a
half mile away) on April 25-26 which features Bluegrass Music and
Jammin', Appalachian Demonstrations and Exhibits, and much much more.

For reservations, call the Lazy Daze Campground at (865) 448-6061 or see
http://www.lazydazecampground.com/.

[Please note that there is an early arrival fee if you check in before
2 p.m., and a non cancellation policy. You only get a raincheck if
you need to cancel]. The campground is not holding spaces for this event,
so you will want to make your reservations soon.
If you mention that your are part of the Egg Club, and we have 10 campers
you will get a 10% discount.

We've made our reservations, have you?

We have our reservation for the Eggscursion at Townsend. We were able to get a site along the river. Glad to see a group forming in the Southeast.
1982 Scamp with many mods pulled by 1999 Ford Ranger.
See you in Townsend.

Well, that's 3 of us that I know of. There may be more. The same message was posted over in the Casitaclub.com camping area.

Post a message here if you're going!

I just sent in a request for a river site and will follow up by phone. I hope a couple of yankees are welcome down there! We'll be ready for a little sunshine by then.

I don t have a Scamp or anything yet. I want to look at some and learn some things about them. Does Lazy Daze have normal camping? I want to meet some people and learn some things about the campers. Plan on working full-time and living out of a Scamp traveling around and working different construction projects.

It looks like they have tent camping on their gravel sites, but no primitive areas. Check their website at the top of this string. This will be our first gathering with other eggs, so I'm not quite sure what to expect. We just got the Scamp this fall with just enough time for a couple of fun outings. Look forward to meeting you!

I just called them, since I had signed up on line over the holidays and still hadn't heard anything. The river sites are now filled, and we're about three up from there. Their email has been down for some time, so if you're interested in reservations, better call them.

I've made my reservation (space 19). I understand that if at least 10 from the Egg Camping club reserve spaces there will be a discount (but I'm not positive about that). I'll be pulling a 1980 13' Burro. (They're just like a Timex watch, "They take a licking and keep on ticking.") If I bring my motorcycle (I may meet my son there for some riding, depending on the forecast), I'll be towing with my old red pickup truck with a bike in the back. If no motorcycle, there'll be a red Cherokee at the site. I've not been camping in over two years now, so I'm really looking forward to it. I look forward to seeing a lot of you there.

I'm a new member. Just got approved. Will be in Townsend with my new, to me,
1989 Casita. Have had a Scamp 1982 13' for several years. Also have a Casita 13'
that is available if someone in TN needs one. The reason I say TN, is because it is
a 1990 US Navy trailer that is not registered. Registration in TN is not required and
therefore, one does not need to pay tax if it is kept in TN.

What is the weather there like at that time? Anything blooming? Trees leafed out?

It should be beautiful at that time. Cool evenings and warm (but not hot) days. The dogwoods should be in full bloom and a lot of the spring flowers.

Come on down!

Come on down Nancy. My trees are in full bloom now. They are Bradford Pears.
We may have Spring showers. I want to see you again. I'm going to try to get
Mary to go with me.

You will like this place. There is more to do than at Fancy Gap. There is a walking/riding
path on both sides of the parkway for miles. Art/gift shops.

The temperature now is going all the way to 70 some days. Cool at night. Nothing you
can't deal with.

I have an old 16' Casita this year. I'll be taking the recumbent bike and will ride for 20+
miles.

What a Weekend!
We had 20 Egg campers ranging from 1979 to 2007 including Burro, Trillium, Bigfoot, Scamp, Egg Camper, and Casita, and 38 human campers. Campers traveled from KS, RI, PA, VA, FL, OH, AL, GA, IL, SC, NC, TN, and even Ontario. Also 3 nights of some of the best Dulcimer, Auto Harp, and Fiddle playing we have every heard by some of our own campers at the campground pavilion, and a great festival just down the street. The breakfast and dinner were also so much fun.

It was great to make so many new friends. It amazes us how different Egg trips are from regular camping club trips. With everyone having so much in common with their campers it seems that people bond and make friends as soon as you arrive and open the door.

At last count I think 11 of the 20 campers had already made reservations for next year.

Thanks to everyone for making this 1st annual Eggscursion such a fantastic trip and a special thanks to Mike & Kathy and Sheryl & Chris for making this happen. We can't wait until next year!!!

I have posted some pictures Here
