Jen, el Gordito weighed anchor for a little shakedown cruise across the Delaware Memorial to Salem County Sportsmen's Club yesterday. Everything working great except refer propane (110AC and 12DC working). Skeeters bad overnite. Are you bringing oats and hay for the donkeys?

To the potluck we will be bringing...Hummus, chips, and salsa. Maybe some veggies to dip in them as well.
Oh, and if anyone is interested, I am selling 3 14" rims, nothing wrong, only 4 years old, just wanted to upgrade to 15's if anyone would like them for 20 each, I can bring them too....just not to the potluck.
I got my rig, cleaned, waxed, replaced vent cap covers, changed out the wheels and tires, and finished building my workbench in my shop...whew what a weekend, I look forward to relaxing with everyone.

Those couple of members here- Jen and Don W and anyone else familiar with the area- HELP!!!
The map directions on the KOA website is confusing. When I exit I80 exit #309 I'm on Rt 209- I want 209 north? and then head south on Hollow Rd. The map also shows exit#310 which is River RD which runs into Hollow RD? It is a little confusing and I know after driving 3 hours with 2 dogs that sense when I get lost they start panting and I start perspiring. What is the most direct, least turns to the CG from I80? Thanks.

I think the easiest thing is to exit I-80 onto 209 north. Several miles up the road (I don't know, 15ish? but don't quote me on that), Hollow Road will be on your right. I missed the turn there on Friday night because I kept expecting one of those giant yellow KOA signs, and it wasn't there.

Heh. Rucio feeds on unsuspecting small children. Bad, bad burro.
Speaking of backing up, I guess everybody's going to get to see the first thing I've broken on my camper.
A couple of weeks ago at the Dingman's Campground & Mud Fest, I had an awkwardly sharp backing turn into our site (it was also very very dark), and I was SUPER POSITIVE I could swing it around just ahead of the bad-jackknife zone. Well, I was wrong. I ended up mashing the little U-shaped tongue jack lock up/lock down mechanism, whatever that thing is called, into my bumper and now it doesn't work so well. I have to bungie-cord the stand thing to the tongue in transit.
I think my dad is going to ride his scooter out from Pittsburgh for the weekend, too. He'll get all kinds of inspiration for Rucio's upcoming winter makeover.

Naww, it's really not that hard. I only missed the turn from 209 onto Hollow Road because it was dark, raining, and I was looking for a big yellow sign that wasn't there.
Here are some landmarks to look for:
If coming from the south, traveling north on 209, the McDonalds on the left is your heads-up. Look out for Hill Road on the right - that will spill you onto Hollow Road. Hollow Road meets 209 at an angle that would otherwise give you a super-sharp right turn.
If traveling from the north, you'll see a Foodtown supermarket on the left as you are getting close to Hollow Road. There's a light there, for supermarket access, and then there's another traffic light just south of that intersection. THEN you'll see Hollow Road on the left, after that second light. If that makes sense.

A note on the saturday morning hike outing. I think there are three solid options.
First, Bushkill Falls as I noted earlier. Pros: beautiful - and I mean beautiful! It's called the Niagara of Pennsylvania (derivative I guess but what can you do?) It's the closest of my three suggestions, and has a number of other amenities at the visitor center - gift shops, etc. Cons: $10 per person, doesn't open till 9, might be kind of busy if you are averse to having your woodsy experience filled with noisy people.
Second, the trails at the Pocono Environmental Education Center. Pros: we can start any time we want without waiting for opening at 9:00. No fee to get in, just a 50 cents donation for trail info handouts. Nicely maintained trails with interpretive information. A nice visitor/education center. Several trail options with varying degrees of length and ruggedness (well, at no time is it particularly rugged, just a couple of short steep bits here and there). Cons: There's only one waterfall off a spur on one of the trail options. It's not as nearby as Bushkill Falls, I guess, but at 13.5 miles away it's a relatively quick drive to get there.
Third, the Great Bear Swamp section of the Thunder Swamp trail system in the Delaware State Forest. Pros: a really really lovely trail through beautiful varied forest and upland bog and swamp. Quiet. No fees. Cons: The trail is pretty rocky and rugged - it has not been tamed for tourism. It's a overgrown in spots, so if it has rained you get wet. Brushing up against a lot of undergrowth means you could/probably will get a tick or two. There's a potentially wet stream crossing depending on how high the creek is (I solve this sort of problem by packing along some flip-flops in my backpack so I can take my boots off through the creek).
All of the trails will be mostly shaded woodsy stuff with short open sections. They'll all have gnats and mosquitoes.
So if I may offer a suggestion: what if we do the Pocono Enviro Ed Center trails, let's say meeting to carpool/caravan to there at 6:30 or 7 on Saturday morning? (I'm open to other time suggestions but am admittedly fond of an earlier/cooler temps start on a mid-summer day.)
That's just my suggestion - folks who want to go on the hike should register their preference so we can come up with a consensus. I think any of the options will be super fun.
[I'll also be glad to show anybody who's interested the bits of the great bear swamp trail I hiked, maybe sunday morning if we can get rolling early enough.]
Now, for eggers who are not interested in woods, mosquitoes, etc, there are plenty of things to do right at the campground and in the surrounding area. There's a big weekend flea market just a little ways south on 209 from Hollow Road, there are river access points here and there, there are various museums and I believe there's a casino lurking around someplace.

Oh, and for the potluck I was thinking I'd bring a sweet item like a big batch of brownies.
Also confirmed that my dad is coming up on his scooter - I reserved one of the little cabins for him just a little ways along the road from our egg section.
