Hi Nancy: Is there a shower house at the fair grounds.

So a Non-Organized Gathering would be a NOG?
Isn't that name taken already?

Corky, there are showers, very basic. One might prefer to go over to the State Park if one is very particular.

Dave, I think we are more of a HUG. Highly unorganized. People can borrow HUG if they want. I think NOG was the original name for the Northern OR gathering, but I might have that wrong.

By the way folks....Some of us will continue up to Voyageurs area (120 miles or so NE of Bemidji) for the Highest Unorganized event. Fred and I want to visit the neutrino facility up at Ash River and will probably do primative camping at Chief Woodenfrog Campgroun just on the boundary of Voyageurs Natl Park. We will have a tour on Monday after Bemidji for anyone who wants to come on up north.

Mosquitos

On another thread Mike asked if he needs a headnet. It should not be needed in Bemidji as the fairgrounds are pretty open. If you follow us up to Chief Woodenfrog all bets are off as that is very wooded, on the water, and typical prime mosquito habitat.

There is a lot of iron in the water at the fairgrounds. You probably don't want to top off your fresh water tanks while here. Fred and I stopped in to have a better look at the restrooms. Expect to see some mellow yellow water. Lots of iron stain and yellow water in the toilets.

Just had 10 lbs of propane put into our new 20 lb fiberglass tank at CO-OP. 10 lbs cost $8.19. 20 lbs would have been $13.33.

Is the dry camping area just sort of open field, or is it comprised of actual marked sites? From the picture it looks open and unorganized (fitting for this event!). I tend to dislike reservations, so I'm inclined just to pop in for a night or two, whatever nights work out best, and am wondering if it's likely to be all filled up or not. Undesignated open field seems more likely to have a nook where I can park even it it's busy.

Mike,

By all means pop in without reservations, I think there will be quite a few coming I'm not expecting. There is more space than we could ever use at the Fairgrounds.

You really might like to follow us up to Chief Woodenfrog and see the Neutrino facility up in Ash River. That rustic campground is first come first serve, and I've been told it doesn't fill up.

We will be watching for Texas plates. Hope we have some cool weather for you. This will be a pretty casual event, but if you have a musical instrument be sure to bring it. We do have music and popcorn!

Sharon, Jay, and Charlie,

Sorry we will miss you. If you get to OR look us up. We will be in B-40. What a great experience to have the OR gathering be your first.

Fire Tower anyone?

I only know of two people who would be interested in climbing up the fire tower near the fairgrounds. If there are any other takers you need to let me know as I would need to arrange to have the fire tower keeper there to allow us access.

Anyone else interested?

Tyler,

Would Thursday afternoon work? We could do it after the bog walk. provided we can arrange with the key keeper.

Rick,

The fire tower is adjacent to the fairgrounds. I see you arrive on the 14th, I think Tyler leaves on the 15th. Do you know what time you arrive on the 14th? I would suggest Thursday evening, but last night I found something local (I'll post later) that people might want to do on their own Thursday night.

We will be leaving Winnipeg at about 8 or 9am on that Thursday the 14th and depending on the border crossing should be there early afternoon. Never crossed the Border with the trailer before so not sure how bad they get at searching the trailer. Not bringing anything but our camping gear so hope it will go ok.

Unless you look nervous or suspicious, or they happen to randomly choose you, a full search seems unlikely.

How many steps up the fire tower? Sounds like work!
