Actually William Randolph Hearst’s “Hacienda” was for his mistress and on the inland side of the mountains, NOT on the coast by the sea lions.

Jen,

Mission San Antonio is an interesting place to visit. Also, William Randolph Hearst of Hearst Castle fame, built a Hacienda in the area that can be visited.
I couldn't view your link; I got a 404 error.

I could view photos at Hearst Hacienda Photos Link

Not quite right -- it is located on the ocean side of the range (not inland side).

However you are quite right that it is quite far inland and higher elevation to avoid the fog.

Here's a "terrain view" from Google Maps -- it is clear that San Simeon is on the ocean side of the ridge.

I think the confusion here is between the famous Hearst Castle, located in San Simeon on the coast, and the lesser known Hacienda he built on his ranch over the mountains. The land now belongs to the US Gov't and is on Fort Hunter Liggett. It is also in the proximity of Mission San Antonio de Padua. It is reachable by road either south from King City or north on Jolon Rd. off Highway 101.

Here is a link showing the distance between the two locations, Hearst Castle & Hearst Hacienda in the The Valley of the Oaks (near San Antonio Mission)

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source...mp;t=p&z=11

The Valley of the Oaks is west of US Highway 101 between San Francisco and Los Angeles, near King City. Exit 101 at Jolon Road (G-14). In the winter, rain sometimes closes the Nacimiento-Ferguson Road and Route 1. Call CalTrans at 800-427-7623 or check their web site for current road conditions. The Hacienda and mission are inside Fort Hunter-Liggett, and there is a brief security check at the gate. Be prepared to show identification, automobile registration and insurance.

Yes, we have room for you. When will you be arriving and how many nights will you be staying?

ALL sites are spoken for, but maybe Lori can squeeze you in (double up). I’ll have her get back to you.

What days would you be able to come?

At best we would be there on the 6th for one night or possibly the 7th for one night. I can't commit to any set dates so we will just see how are schedule turns out. At the very least, maybe we can pop in and say "hi". Doug & Shell

Doug,

There will only be a couple of our group there on Wednesday night the 6th. A much larger group arrive on Thursday. We do have some sites available on Thursday. If you decide to come on Thursday, you'll need to let me know so I can give the gate your name, since we have reserved the entire campground.

We hope you can make it. Let me know.

Bill,

I'm sure we can find a spot for you. Because our rigs are so small, the Park lets us put two rigs on the bigger sites (They still get their full fees from each rig, though). When will you arrive and how many nights will you stay?

We are able to double up with these small trailers.

What size trailer do you have and what days would you like to come?

Thank you for the education!

Funny thing is that I've been on the Hunter-Liggett reservation (military, that is) and to Mission San Antonio, but I didn't know anything about the Hearst Hacienda until now.

So Mike, I owe you an apology, and Lori, thank you for your patient explanation.

No problem. Sometimes the net is hard to get information across.
